MATH241 Expecting a B- Anonymous 03/10/2022 |
I had her for math 241 in fall 2021. After a few weeks, I realized I was never going to learn anything from her lectures. I never went to a lecture after that. I watched all of Justin's youtube videos and took notes by the schedule of Wu's lectures. Didn't do great on quizzes and classwork because I never watched the videos in time, but if I did it would have been completely doable. In general, if I stayed on time with justin's youtube, I would've ended ended with probably a B+. |

Good teacher. Midterms are very fair and Matlabs are easy to complete but bring decent comprehension of the software. |

Considering the MATH141 reviews she may seem that she’s a bad professor but she’s not bad. She answers questions in class and reviews stuff from calc 1 and 2 before you expand on this class. Midterms are very fair, if you practice Justin’s exams and did the homework, you’re guaranteed a B at least. Matlab assignments are really easy just use Justin’s guide for matlab. Although she’s not perfect. As mentioned in a MATH141 review, she tends to not finish class on time. Her lectures can get confusing if you can’t understand her accent or she moves around a lot in her notes. Her pacing in lecture is kinda slow so that by the end she doesn’t get to write down most of the example(s) for the homework. (She hurries up and sometimes doesn’t finish and sends the finished example in ELMS). All in all, after her cons, she makes the class easier compared to other MATH241 sections and is fairly manageable, just keep up with hw and ask TAs for help. |

Despite most of the reviews here are for math141, she is a really decent professor for math241. The midterms are always fair as most of the examples we do in class show up in a similar way on the midterms. She always answer questions when asked and she always goes over some of the algebra/trig related stuff before continuing the calculus. My only small complaint is that the Matlab projects need to be printed out and turned in by hand. |

In my opinion, she is a pretty decent professor. A lot of people mention her accent and how hard it is to understand her, but I didn't think that she was hard to understand at all. Her accent was never a big distraction to me. I thought that she explained the MATH141 concepts decently, and I would almost always come out of her lecture understanding those concepts pretty well. Her tests were reasonable, and she never tested us on anything that she didn't teach in class or that wasn't on the homework or the practice test. Overall, she is pretty nice and cares about her students. She also curves individual exams if the average is below 70, and she drops your lowest midterm, which is pretty great. I was dreading MATH141 because everyone kept talking about what a hard course it was, but I thought that she made the course relatively easy and reasonable. |

Wu is a really nice professor that actually cares about her students. She makes notes before hand that are availiable in the files section so you can see what you are doing in lecture before it evern starts, during class she always reads chat and answers all the questions she can, she shows proof for how formulas work (this sometimes confuses people though) instead of just handing it to you that why you actually understand the concepts, her drawning skills were pretty helpful at times, her office hours were right after lecture so you could stay and ask questions if you were still confused, and best of all she records all of her lectures (and office hours) so if you didn't follow something, wanted to study for a test, or even just sleep in because you're overworked, that is something you can do with Wu. As far as I am aware she is one of the only math professors who record their lectures and thank goodness she does. A lot of people have mentioned her accent, but it's honestly not that bad. I, and im pretty sure most poeple, didn't have trouble understanding her at all. Going after class ends happens often but it's usually about 1-3 minutes more; keep in mind she has been answer questions during lecture which takes up some time. There were a couple times when she went about ~10 minutes after class ended with some of the heavier topics, but if you can't afford to stay you can always leave and watch the recording later. Her exams weren't crazy and if for whatever reason the class didn't do so well she would curve the grades up for so the average would be 70%; she curved people up at least 10 points one time. Proffesor Wu is an extremely nice professor who does her best to accomidate every student and give everyone the best chance to succeed (which for Calc 2 being as hard as it is, you'll need). Do yourself a favor and just sign up already. |

She's incredibly nice, but she doesn't teach incredibly well and her English isn't fantastic and therefore causes additional issues. Her work is jumbled and cluttered on the screen and incredibly confusing to understand. When you ask questions the answers aren't fully clarifying, which is hard because it leaves you feeling like you don't want to keep asking. Class typically ends on time, however she did hold office hours immediately after class. The tests are also super short and the TA's treat them like they have a stick up their butt and out their mouth. |

Her teaching is very confusing and all over the place, she is nice with accommodations, but the lectures are so hard to follow and you leave class having so many questions still for preparing for worksheets and tests. If you are not a math major and need this class, I would suggest a different professor if classes are full for a later time |

She's really nice but she's a terrible teacher, by far my least favorite I've had. She has her notes prewritten and then fills parts of them in during lecture but she never leaves enough room so they always end up going all over the place which makes them very hard to follow, especially when you look back at the pdfs. She also can go very fast which is hard to follow and she never understands what students are asking so she typically just wastes time and causes people to be more confused. She NEVER ends class on time, always goes over and it's usually the important things she does after class so if you have to leave you're kinda screwed. If it is between taking her or postponing the class a semester, I'd recommend postponing. |

She explains the course material very well and is really understanding and helpful. For example, if you're having issues with hw problems, you can email her and she will respond quickly. She does go over some topics pretty fast but not in a way that makes it incomprehensible. |

She has an accent which is a little hard to understand at first and she sometimes skips steps which make it difficult to follow and she moves very quickly, but once you understand her teaching style, it it not too bad. |
