He taught this class once a week for 2.5 hours. There is a 3-question reading quiz at beginning of each class. This first book he made us read required 200 pages of reading a week and it did not have cliff notes online. The exams were on the books. He went through the slides way too fast for anyone to even comprehend them. |

This class was awful. As a junior criminology major I expected this class to be an easier grade than others because it was only a 200 level class but it actually felt like more work than a 400 level. The professor also did not seem to care about her students and was thankful when we only had one class left. On the first exam more than half the class got an F on it and she said we needed to do better and should have asked her questions but the exam review was not that helpful. She constantly complained about her other section and made everyone feel dumb. The course lectures barely even touched on responses to crime and she just read off her notes from her slides. She also takes days to respond to emails and just does not seem to care about her students whatsoever. She had said we could leave class a few minutes early to get to our next class since our room got moved but then would get pissed and make comments during class when someone would leave early. |

Brooklyn Hitchens is a great professor, but you will have to work hard in her classes to succeed. She gives feedback, there were about 5 quizzes and opportunities for extra credit. There is a lot to read and study, but if you come to class and pay attention you will do well. There is a group presentation, two exams and five quizzes, but the quizzes are very easy and she gives pretty thorough study guides for them. She is nice but she's no nonsense. |

Very few grades in the class so keep that in the back of your mind. However, the quizzes are online and take home so you can use your notes. All of the questions are verbatim from the notes or textbook so should be easy to get 100% on all of them. Just copy notes down directly from slides and you won't have to worry about anything. Midterm is the same thing; online and open note. Group project is worth a large chunk of your grade but as long as you communicate with your groups its not too bad and you have several months to get it done. Attendance isn't required at all but she doesn't post lecture notes so either go to class or have somebody send you the notes every time because you'll need them. Overall, class was very interesting to me but definitely taught in a way that quickly becomes boring if the topics don't interest you. |

Awful teacher. Her class only is test-based and contains one paper. She does not value her students' learning at all. |

Professor Dorsey is GREAT!!! His lecture slides are very straightforward and easy to read, and he is really good at answering questions. He does a really good job with keeping the class engaged and he is generally a very laid back and chill person. Please make sure you have a class with him, you won't regret it! |

An incredibly straightforward and communicative professor. You won't find someone who teaches as clearly and concisely as her. The class information was incredibly interesting and I loved lectures because of it. However, we did have a group essay at the end of the year that was a bit frustrating. At least she is very involved in the process, and will force all group members to show up/put the effort in so it doesn't fall onto one person. Overall, I loved her and would definitely take any of her classes again. |

I'm not sure why she has a low rating because I personally loved her. Everything was straight forward, you do have to go to every class because she doesn't post her PowerPoints. But, if you get all the information down and make a quizlet, you'll ace all quizzes and midterm. She was an easy grader on papers- I got a 100% on both. Final was a breeze. I honestly can say this was one of my favorite classes, and I'm a business major... The lectures may have been boring, but the material was interesting and she is super fair with workload and grading. I would recommend her for this course for sure! |

The class is decent. She does teach from slides so it is very easy to take notes in class. The quizzes are simple and the midterm is a multiple-choice paper. We did have a group presentation which is a 20% of your final grade which she assigns. So it can be challenging if you have a group member who does not contribute a lot. |

This may be one of the most interesting classes I have taken so far at UMD as a gen ed. This class is easy as long as you take good notes and watch the documentaries assigned. Professor Miller is very nice and a very good communicator. If you are looking for an easy way to get two gen eds out of the way, I definitely recommend taking this class. There is only one exam and the final is a project. The class was 1-2 asynchronous lectures per week. Definitely recommend getting the book as it is very helpful for quizzes and the exam. |

I had Dr. Zafft both semesters of my freshman year (CCJS 105 and 225), and she is my favorite professor I've had. The content of the courses was interesting, and her lectures were clear and organized. She's also funny and personable, so I enjoyed attending her classes. |
