This class is made to look hard courtesy A Barg, who just doesn't want to retire. Where do we start! He forgets that he is standing in a physical class room and lecturing, instead he is in his own 'la la land' where everyone is a math undergrad degree holder. Pre-reqs is NOT Math410 or any thing remotely similar IT IS ENEE324 for crying out loud! So he skips details and especially the details that are required to complete homework and tests. TESTS! TESTS! TESTS! Did I just say tests! 9 hours of relentless self doubt, self-flogging, hypertension and trying to wonder if the exam is for the same class/lectures I attended. Home works has graph theory questions which are neither taught nor required anywhere. Last person reviewing has it spot on- take it somewhere else and transfer the credits! I am sure everyone in the class rated him very badly after the course but there you go again Spring 2024 A Barg again for 620. ! Take him and suffer with self doubt |

Lectures are hard to understand. Exams are a brutal 9 straight hours with no flexibility if you are just not available for 9 straight hours. Homework is really hard and time consuming. Grading is really brutal. There is no good reason this class needs to be this way and I had a bad enough experience that if I were to go back in time, I would take an equivalent class through a different university and transfer the credits over. |

How he is allowed to teach at UMD I will never understand. |

I have never had a professor so open about his disdain for engineers. This class is listed as an engineering class but assumes you have a prior BS in mathematics, and you will need that level of background information to do well. The class will be a mix of folks, some engineering and some math-focused. All the engineers struggled, whereas all the math folks did fairly well. If you are an undergraduate, don't even consider taking this course, he is very open about the fact that he tries to fail all of the undergrads. This professor pretty much singlehandedly killed all enthusiasm I had for graduate school, and honestly, I was just happy to pass by the time the end of the semester came around. Find another course if you value your sanity and aren't a hyper-theoretical mathematician. |

Professor Barg is available outside of class and genuinely wants his students to succeed in ENEE 620. This class was very difficult for me because I had not had proper experience in rigorous proof based math before taking this my first semester as a graduate student. Dr. Barg focused on the most important parts of the material, and there were never any surprises as far as exams and homework go. Make sure to start the homework early so you have time to get stuck and reference sections of the textbooks. Overall, he is extremely knowledgeable on the course material and presents it in a clear fashion that was digestible by someone without the best pure math skills. |

Worst professor I ever had. Pre-recording lectures 1-2 months in advNce isn't teaching. Also two tough with his marks. A tiny mis type can cost you 50-70% of the grade even if everything else is correct. Would not recommend. |

The last person reviewing this professor has lost it! This guy is lazy and a joke. Remember we review teacher ( TEACHING !!!! ) here and not his knowledge on the subject. I give him a 0 (if not a negative score) on teaching capability. |

The best professor for taking ENEE620. There are a couple of major advantages: 1- 620 is among the courses that contain a huge set of contents that is not possible to teach in only one semester. Thus choosing what to cover is very important. Dr. Barg is very good at this. I realized this after doing a great deal of research on that topic and also observing several offerings of the course over the years. 2- The set of assignments and the exams have a very meaningful correlation. You will not get surprised. 3- Rather than focusing on too much machinery and unnecessary ugly computational mathematics, Dr. Barg provides a lot of intuition to the core of the subject. 4- He is one of the most helping professors in office hours and is very flexible in dealing with the issues related to the course. |

I really like Papamarcou. He cares about his students and attempts to help them navigate his course. He is thorough in teaching the material and the homework is tough but you learn a lot. On the downside, his exams are super-tough and the scores you make on the exams make up 90% of the grade. So, while I learned so much in this course, my grade won't reflect what I learned, but only how I performed on the timed exams. |
