Been with Fire since 2022 and joined project greenhouse with Dr.Niu in 2023, I'm happy to see how the program changed in the last 3 years and I'm glad to be part of it but it wouldn't have been possible without Dr.Niu From methane knowledge to just having a casual chat Dr.Niu is the best person for it. she carely deeply for each and every one of y'all and it was an honor to be in her class for two semesters then being a prm for two years. If you're a science major this class will give you great insight on greenhouse gases and also a lot of hands on work which I feel like is what science is all about. And for those of yall not science majors, please take this class because it will make your stay at UMD that much better.

FIRE398 is someone who is a PRM and has likely been in the stream for awhile, so take it from me Dr. Chey is one of the best instructors I have ever had. Over the past two years working with her through 198 and 298 as well she has always had my best interest at heart and cared about my learning. I will say she makes it difficult to learn about the research content but honestly that was so important because it pushed me to be a better researcher. She will help you to learn content and genetics if you reach out to her and she will help you with questions and procedures. You definitely won’t just get the answer handed to you, but again that’s just what research and even life is. You are going to be pushed to reach deadlines and it is going to seem hard but I promise that you can accomplish it. Don’t expect this content to come easy and don’t expect to be given hand outs of information. Research is hard and this program helps people to get prepared for research, and I will confidently say that I am prepared to go into other research after having worked with Dr. Chey.

Dr. O'Hara is one of the best professors on campus. Very few people come to class to her level. She is not only funny but also very supportive. I am extremely grateful to have chosen the Host-Pathogens Interaction stream for the FIRE program. Her knowledge is impressive, and she is highly involved in our learning process. The course is quite easy, provided that you complete all the assignments. I highly recommend selecting her for FIRE198 and considering a position as a peer research mentor in her lab for FIRE398.

Dr. Weiner is hands-down the best professor I’ve ever had. Over the course of a few semesters, I have learned research techniques that you would struggle to find in other labs, and these skills set me up for success in other courses, like microbio. She is so kind and caring, and understanding of extenuating circumstances. She treats you like a human and has a breadth of knowledge shes willing to teach you. Ill miss my time in her lab.

Currently in FIRE 398 and I will say, Dr. Niu is the best professor I ever had! She is very passionate about Project Greenhouse and will go to lengths to explain concepts in details along with physically visiting some off campus places like the golf course. Overall, one of the top tier UMD instructors!

I'm a Peer mentor for Dr. Z's Cellex class (298). Literally the nicest woman I've ever met. She is super understanding and kind and respectful. You really can't ask for more. Interesting research and great prof. Go take.
