Seminar in International Relations and World Politics; The United Nations in World Politics
Prerequisite: GVPT200. Restriction: Must be in Government & Politics program or Government & Politics: International Relations program. May not be taken concurrently with GVPT406H. This course introduces students to the academic study of the United Nations (UN). We examine the history of the UN; its structure and functions, including in-depth investigation of bodies such as the Security Council, General Assembly, specialized agencies, and more; its effectiveness as an organization; and the acute challenges it faces today. During the semester students will develop the necessary background and skills to analyze the central role that the UN system has played in world politics from 1945 to today.
