She is maybe the best professor I have had so far at UMD. She is very kind and will help you if you ask. Also, she keeps lectures relatively engaging and you do need to go and participate if you want a good grade. I think participating was somewhat easy because she makes her classroom a very welcoming space. Doing the reading will help you participate but most of the time you can pick up on what is being talked about anyway and speak up. Being in class will really help when writing papers because while she posts her slides, a lot of the actual details are written on the board which she does not post. There are 4 papers, weekly quizzes (just a written response to a question), and a participation grade. She grades somewhat harshly but I think you start to figure it out as the semester goes on. If you are a PLCY major I strongly recommend taking 213 with Dunning. |

Prof. Johnson Cooper is a great lecturer and does her best to make the class content (yes it is really easy) fun and easy to understand. She takes in students' inputs and integrates the feedback the best she can. She also does her best to make sure everyone gets the maximum amount of points they can and even creates bonus assignments to give students another opportunity to do so. She is definitely experienced working in public policy and knows what she is talking about and shows that by teaching from readings and podcasts but also her also personal experiences. |

I enjoyed taking Professor Johnson Cooper’s class this semester. If you show up this class is very straightforward and easy to manage. She puts in effort to make sure the class is as interactive and engaging as possible. The classroom felt like a community and she puts in effort to get to know everyone and refers to everyone by name. She is very kind and I recommend taking a class with her if you get a chance. |

Professor Johnson Cooper is extremely inflexible and rude. The class is relatively interesting and basic concepts (easy content), but taking it with JC makes it extremely difficult. I recommend taking this class, however, please take it with the other section (claire dunning), if you can. This professor makes life unbearable and does not empathize with her students whatsoever. |

Incredible person and professor. He is an amazing teacher and is so passionate about nonprofits and getting everyone in the class involved. The course is very discussion based, and everyone becomes super close to one another by the end. You have to take this class. |

Professor Stillwell is the best professor I've had at UMD, by far. The passion he has for nonprofits and for his students is unmatched, and it shines through in everything he does. He is adaptable, flexible, and genuinely takes constructive criticism and feedback to make the course the best that it can be. The environment he creates is spectacular, and he does an amazing job of making everyone in the class become genuine friends with each other. He facilitates great discussions, and engages each student individually in a way that makes you feel like you WANT to participate, not like you have to. He is incredibly well-qualified to teach, and sees the good in everyone. Don't miss an opportunity to take a class with Professor Stillwell, or you'll regret it. Amazing class, amazing professor and human being. |

James Stillwell is the funniest, most personable professor I've ever had. He literally restructured our entire class to be less work and canceled our final exam and assigned a reflection paper instead based on student feedback. The class is very interactive and involves a lot of talking and moving around though so be prepared |

One of my favorite professors ever! Super kind and genuinely cares about all of his students. He really wants to get to know you and keep you engaged. This class was really straightforward and there were no tests/quizzes, only written assignments. He is a very kind grader and gives grace periods for resubmissions, and is super understanding about needing extensions. Never be afraid to ask him for help - I have asked him for help with interviews, assignments for other classes, etc. |

Late, unorganized, and didn’t learn anything in the class. Avoid if not in the minor. |

Worst course I have taken at UMD post Zoom era. Cooper-Jean is consistently late, unprepared, and provides little to no guidelines on assignments. I honestly feel like she had 0 prepared material for this course other than the readings that are not even relevant or addressed in the course. This class was simply a mess from the first day to the last. Avoid this class if you can, there are plenty of classes that are easy A's that won't have you questioning why you are enrolled in this univeristy. |

Best professor at UMD. She is extremely engaging and class is always interactive. One of my favorite classes I have taken at the school of public policy. I've learned so much from her. There are four papers and weekly reading quizzes (super easy). Her grading isn't very lenient but it is fair. |

She's a very good lecturer, keeps class very interactive and encourages everyone to share their thoughts. There are four papers in total, but nothing too hard as long as you get started early. Would definitely recommend her, she's really nice and this is a good intro class for the public policy school |

Honestly one of the kindest professors at UMD. She goes out of her way to help if you fall behind or are struggling, provides good feedback on papers, and makes the class insightful. Participation is a grade, but she offers to help if you aren't good with speaking up. She's really sweet and positive and a great person as well as professor! |

The class was easy, but Professor Johnson Cooper made the class unbearable. She shows favoritism very early on in the semester, and only talks to those few students. Participation is a large portion of the grade, but she makes it impossible for the majority of students to even earn a B considering she does not give people the chance to speak. She heavily emphasizes equality and respect, which is ironic given how she treats her students. She also came unprepared to most classes and I feel like I barely learned anything. I would not recommend her at all. |

no complaints. Waldron gave no tests, quizzes, or exams. if you ever need an extension there should be not hesitation in asking. biggest assignments were a 5-page paper and a 7min presentation. very passionate about nonprofits and willing to help you out professionally. |

Professor Counts is one of those professors that you never forget, even 10 years into the future. The class is discussion based, so it's nice to just have a conversation about the week's topic. The only assignments are 5 papers, but they're not too hard to complete, and he lets you resubmit them for a higher grade. |
