I do not even know where to start with this amazing woman. Professor Stolt raises the standards for how all professors/doctors should be. I was considering dropping my minor in Philosophy, but taking this course solely reinforced my love for the subject. I added this course last minute, and I think that was probably the best decision I have ever made in my college career. On the academic/classroom level, my goodness, she is absolutely incredible. I think this is my first course at UMD where pretty much every student showed up each class - not because of attendance purposes, but because Chelsea fosters an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, heard, and cared for. I looked forward to every Tuesday and Thursday solely because of this class. I remember for the quiet kids, she would always make sure that they were not overlooked. That has to say a lot. There is a bit of reading, but she doesn't reinforce that you have the understand the dense philosophy writing. All she asks is that you complete the required reading, and in class, she elaborates on them and we have open-discussions. I have never learned more from such a unique and effective teaching style. On a personal level, I remember contending with mental health issues. Professor Stolt would email me after every class to make sure I was okay. She would even talk to me after class and let me rant to her. She provided the wisest and most insightful advice. She also went beyond her role as a professor and gave me her phone number in case I had a mental health emergency. What professor does that? Only her. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met. I wish Professor Stolt taught every class at UMD. I think every student needs someone like her in their lives. Hell, I think every person in this world needs a Professor Stolt. I cannot recommend her and this course enough. I truly will never forget my experience, and I will probably carry every lesson she taught me for the rest of my life. Even if this is just a Gen-ed for you or you just need an extra class or whatever, TAKE THIS COURSE AND TAKE IT WITH HER. You will thank yourself later. |

Professor Chou is so nice. She does care about the success of her students and does all that she can to ensure that everyone does well. The vast majority of grades are participation, where you literally just show up for class, I barely spoke and still got an A+. You must do a partner lesson on one of the readings, but she will help you with it. There are 3 analysis papers, but this semester she made the third one optional and took the average of the first 2. For the final you get the choice of having a 45-minute conversation about your philosophy of education or write a paper, I say do the conversation because it is so easy so long as you back up your thinking with things mentioned in class. Overall, I loved my time with Stephanie and definitely recommend you take TLPL250 with her as it is almost impossible to get lower than a B to B- in the class. |

SUCH AN AMAZING PROFESSOR AND CLASS! I'm a STEM major (nursing) but I actually found this class quite insightful and not a waste of my time like other gen ed classes. She's a very caring professor whose main goal is for students to actually take away something from the course and not just sit and do mindless assignments. The class is mainly discussion and talking about our own perspective on education and build our philosophy/understanding of it. The class is mainly about discussion and understanding what the reading was trying to discuss in class. Her classroom creates an environment where you connect and talk with other student's about understanding our own perspectives on what education means to us. Overall attendance is mandatory (since all we're doing is talking) and mainly about talking with others and the professor. The only real assignments are the journal entrees where we have to do but it's mainly just writing on what YOU think the prompt is and your opinion on it. The final is a creative project on whatever you want or you could have very chill and laid back educational conversation about what we learned over the course of the semester and what it means to us. Such a nice and swwet understanding professor who actually takes the time and cares for her students. TLDR: If you're committed on going to class and do the readings, journal entries, and just talks/participates during class this is such an interesting and laid back course! 100% would recommend to anyone looking for an easy gen ed course. |

PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!! Actually one of the best gen ed professors I've had on campus that actually feels like the class is worth it. There are no main assignments other than a creative project final and journal entries (all on paper) that you do based on the prompt so give you. The class is discussion based about philosophy of education, and she does a great job of working with the student to create a space where education and non-education majors can talk about what they think their on philosophy on the topic is. All this class is about discussion and engaging with the material so it's pretty easy. There are reading which you have to do but it's worth it cause some of the text she picks is actually really interesting. There is one field trip during the semester where you go to a museum with the class's and she discussion about how the materials relate about to education and philosophy. Overall the topics and discussing actually brings a different perspective on how to view life in a different manner than before which I found interesting. Overall she's an amazing professor who understands and is very caring. TLDR if you want a class where all the grading is about yapping and sometimes writing and little stress/work. This is definitely it! |

One of my favorite professors this semester hands down because she is so caring and kind. Easy class and easy assignments. I enjoyed going to class all semester. There are some in-class writing essays and also occasional journal entries along with a final project. Super easy grader and was an easy A in my opinion. |

excellent professor. she is super kind and understanding and is genuinely a nice person to talk to! It's a lot of reading, but everything is discussed in class as a group so if you attend class regularly (attendance is graded with a few excused absences) you will understand what's going on. there are short essays and a final essay, but the short essays are based on what's discussed in class and there is an option to have a 40 minute conversation with her for the final. If she still offers that option, TAKE IT!! She is a fair grader for essays and if you attend class you will do well. The final conversation was extremely laid-back, and was a much better option than writing an entire essay! If you're someone who can commit to going to class and isn't stressed by talking to professors, it's a really good class to take for education and non-education majors. |

Includes lots of resources on ELMS. Bad reviews are probably from students who did not attend class. Really helpful with one on one meetings |

Lilo is super nice and definitely cares about her students well-being. I would say that she gave a little too much homework (ex. listening to an hour-long podcast) for what the class is, but overall she did not make the class very difficult. There were no tests, just projects, and we were given lots of time to work on them. I would recommend this class for a gen-ed |

Kavitha is a great professor who is not just an excellent teacher but a nice person. She knows everyones name and makes sure that the class is a safe enviornment. She grades fairly but will also take the time to annotate where you went wrong and provides feedback. But in general, she gives out a lot of high grades with the average being really high. Her class is really well organized and understandable as well. The course itself is also really interesting and provides an interesting take from someone who is out of the major. |

Great teacher. One of the three essays is dropped, and thus she lets you not do the third essay if you think you did well in the other two. I never lost any points in this class. I highly recommend if you like a nice writing intensive class based upon fun lectures. |

Great teacher! Very enthusiastic about the class and discussing the topics covered. Overall the topics for this class were well rounded in the theme of education, and very informative. Not too much work either, just biweekly discussion posts (graded on completion), three analysis essays (lowest of which is dropped), and a final essay. This class is not difficult, but if you want to ensure you get an A+, make sure you ask her to review/proofread your essay and make changes accordingly. |

Understanding teacher and his classes are very interesting if you read the readings because you get to get philosophical. Easy A class, 4 essays lowest one dropped, final is either a longer essay or just a conversation with him for 30mins. Great class |

Professor Scribner is genuinely such an interesting guy. This class may seem like a lot of work, but it is super manageable. There are readings due before class everyday, but you spend pretty much the entire class discussing, asking questions, and analyzing them. Aside from that there is no final exam, just a conversation with him or a Philosophy of Education Paper. Then along the way there is 4 analysis papers that are pretty spread out and you can write them on whatever you choose from the readings! Great class, Highly recommend Professor Scribner! |

One of the worst teachers I’ve had at UMD. Did not explain expectations of assignments thoroughly and would grade based on favoritism. When asking for help she would be very condescending and make students feel bad. Do not take this class with her. |

I'm an education major... and I thought this class was pretty boring. There was a lot of information thrown to you at once each lecture and there was breakout rooms which I didn't enjoy. Your grade for the class is based off of three 10Q quizzes and one group presentation. They were open note so just make sure you take good notes and you should do well. She loves when people participate but I wasn't really about that, she never made people speak though or call people out by name which was nice. |

I think ill get an A in this class but she is honselty one of the best professors ever! She's very understanding and gives virtually no homework. Additionally there seem to only be 2 quizzes and a final paper which you gather information for all semester. Class is mostly discussion based but there are no participation points or anything like that. This class seems to be an easy A, and Dr Lisa makes it easy! |

young and new at teaching, requires ALOT of reading and outside work for class. She is not a good professor and she is very strict |

The good: she's highly available to help you with your work, and the class itself isn't too hard The bad: she's kinda annoying and class is torture (long, boring readings and futile discussions) She's also big on participation so make sure to talk in class! |

She cares far too much about the course. She will personally email or message you if you do not participate in class. Daily complex readings in preparation for class and three writing assignments on top of a final paper. Take another professor. |

Great dude. Interesting class if you try to get into it. Really cares about the students and subject. Readings aren't too bad and you can still follow along with the class if you don't read. Assigns some essays but are managable. |

Very easy class. Didn't do most of the readings and could still figure out what was going on in the class. A little boring but he really cares about the subject. |
