HIST289C Expecting an A- Anonymous 12/08/2023 |
Professor Conner is accommodating and understanding, gives constructive feedback, and truly wants you to succeed. I'm not sure what the other reviews are talking about but I had pretty amazing and relaxed time in her class and her grading was not too harsh. |

Conner is knowledgeable about everything she talks about, and a funny person if you get to know her. She really cares about her students and remembers everyone's name no matter what. The Only work you have to do in HIST319C is to write 4 essays and they are very simple if you pay attention in class. I am not good at writing essays at all but I still got B+'s on all 4. Def recommend this class. |

Do yourself a favor and just...don't. She's nice and super understanding, which is why I am even giving it 2 stars. But, I just cannot get over the grading and the way this class seriously disrupted my peace in ALL senses of the word. There are stressful classes and then there's this. If you need to take this class for a major, take this as a last resort (literally look everywhere for fulfillment before taking this), if it's for an elective, run. Literally ruined my GPA smh |

She's alright. Her tests are really hard and super complex that sometimes you don't even know how to answer. Even if you do somehow find an answer, it's wrong. She decided to curve our grades after the first test because I'm assuming everyone did really terribly, which showed it was her questions that were off, not our knowledge of the contents. In one of the papers she assigned, not one person got 100...I think the highest grade was a 90. All this to say, she's whatever. Only take it if you absolutely have to. I thought the reviews were being extra when I first saw it but they weren't lying. |

Her weekly coursework was really easy, but her exams were essays- which I'm glad for. But I followed her rubric to a T and wouldn't get the best grades on them... and I'm a straight-A student. If this will be a filler class for you, I would look elsewhere. Her grading the essays as she did really didn't make sense and was very frustrating. |

I don't know about the reviews for the other classes but for HIST110 she is not that bad. Don't not take this class because she is the one teaching it. The only bad thing I could say is the tests. The questions are complex to begin with and they are worded in a way where you are always second guessing yourself if you are answering it how she wants you too. But for our class she noticed and switched the last 2 online so they were much easier. |

Professor Conner is a very considerate and flexible professor when it comes to student needs. The course work isn't too difficult, and you can find it interesting but only if you intended to be interested when signing up for the course. |

Dr. Conner is understanding and considerate of students needs. I really don't think most of these reviews are fair. |

Like the other reviews said, she is very compassionate and has a genuine soul. The class, however, is extremely boring that even she seems bored too. Every other sentence ends with "um" and she doesn't seem energetic about the material. On top of that, the writing assignments are VERY tedious, and she grades them harshly too. The worst part is they are worth 60% of your final grade! I wouldn't recommend the class unless you're very interested in Jesus, Mani, and Muhammad. |

Dr. Conner was the sweetest, she was more than understanding throughout the entire semester and I am grateful for that. A friend of mine died earlier this year from COOVID and her leniency made a difficult situation bearable. With that being said, I did not enjoy this course in the slightest bit. Every assignment was dreadful. I love history, but they were boring and the fact that every week we were assigned the same exact thing was dull and draining. Every week two zoom meetings, a quiz and a writing assignment. Like clockwork. Nothing was worse than the the zoom meetings where we sat for over an hour and she just read and explained powerpoint slides. It would have been nice if we had different types of assignments. Maybe a group or creative project, making a timeline, more discussion boards( discussion boards are amazing tools, utilize them), a reading that was not 30 pages long, maybe even sprinkle in a kahoot or two. There are so many different types of assignments that could improve this course. I mean this as respectfully as possible because I liked this woman a lot, but I would rather eat a pair of bootcut jeans than take this course again. |

If you want to learn about early Christian history, read a book, do not take this class. I thought this class would be interesting and fun but instead, it has made me never want to take another history class again in my life. When the class started on the first day of the semester there were at least 30 kids, by the end of the class I don't, there was 10. This class was so disorganized that we had gone over the same stuff for weeks and the schedule was so messed up by the time the class was done. Her thoughts were never organized and consisted of an unfathomable amount of "ums" making the lecture extremely hard to comprehend and made me think personally that she doesn't have a clue on what she is talking about. In the final exam, you're expected to write a four-page essay on the spot (no biggie usually) however she wanted exact sourcing from reading materials on where that information was found. She gave us the essay question beforehand, however, being that we had a lot of reading material we had to do, it is hard to remember specific sources authors and dates. I had never had to do this in my schooling career. If I were a history major, maybe this would be okay but as an elective that allows every major to take, I am baffled at how we had to do that. She is a nice person, and the handful of times I've gone to get extra help have been helpful, however, that doesn't comprehend for the amount of work that has to be put into a class, let alone an elective. |
