I have never been more unimpressed by a professor. Janet Wagner is the epitome of someone that you don't want as a teacher and I wish I took all these previous reviews seriously before thinking I was going to be ok. Sure, I looked at the grade breakdown on OurUMD and believed I would easily fall within the A or B range. However, although I put considerable effort forth in this course and went to talk to her multiple times about different concepts outside of class, I surprisingly found myself in the 1% C range. First, there is no room for error in this course. Honestly, you need to do everything absolutely the way she wants it done or there's no chance of getting an appropriate grade. For example, towards the beginning of the semester, we had a group presentation (and was the second group to go, so we had a good idea of what to expect) where we followed the syllabus and met with her beforehand to make sure what we were doing was correct. After we presented, she basically told us that we did everything wrong in front of the entire class. Not only did we actually do everything right (which we found out after we met with her after class), but she disrespected us in front of everyone and still only received a B+ on a perfect presentation. This woman has no moral compass and believes that everything in her head is right. Second, DON'T BUY THE BOOK. On multiple occasions, only AFTER the first test, she said that she mainly relies on everything in her slides. On the first exam I took, there is a definition section where you define vocabulary words that she gives you. Seems easy enough, right? So I used the definitions given in the book and to my surprise, I get pretty much the entire section wrong (8 points off my grade on the test). When I went to talk to her after class about it, she said, even though I checked and it was nowhere on the review sheet or anywhere else, that she expected us to use her definitions in the slides and that she had mentioned it ONE TIME in class. I argued about why the book is required although we use her concepts instead and she didn't have an answer for me except, "Tough luck, you won't be getting any credit back on this test and you should consider sitting closer to the front of the class." I've never been more disrespected in my college career and, looking back, those points would've earned me an appropriate B in the class. Lastly, class participation. If you don't participate multiple times in every single class, you won't get full credit. Not only did I attend every class except for two (that were excused), but I participated every now and again and ended up with a lowly 70/100. For a second, I thought she was out to get me until I heard that everyone else in the class finished with poor class participation grades. I couldn't tell you what goes through her head during the grading process, but it's definitely not rational. To be honest, I'm not sure what Janet's deal is, but I believe she is drastically overpaid, a terrible professor and I can't believe she earned a Ph.D. Whatever you do, do not take a class with her.

As stated before me, Janet Wagner is extremely passive aggressive and immature as a person. As a professor she is often rambling and incoherent. Her tests are convoluted and extremely difficult. For material she claims to know a lot about, she is often unable to answer simple and relevant questions. Don't take this class-- you won't get much out of it.

Prof Wagner seems nice enough, but she definitely takes this class too seriously. The material is common sense, however she makes it complicated. I took this class because it fit into my schedule, but it was not worth the amount of work.

This might look like an easy class, even when looking at the syllabus but it actually is a ridiculous amount of work. Professor Wagner holds students to an MBA level (this was her first time teaching undergrads) and is an extremely hard grader. She also is ridiculously strict about attendance and takes students out in the hallway to discuss them missing class. She is passive aggressive and her tests are extremely difficult. If you are a marketing major looking for an easy elective, this is not it. The material is easy but she tries to make it hard.
