Hongye is an amazing professor! She covers every topic thoroughly and gives us multiple sources to look at (textbooks, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc.) in order to cover topics. The course is textbook reading heavy, so if you don't have time to read the assigned chapters for class (usually a chapter before class every class) you may want to take that into consideration. The class lectures always have to deal with what the chapter readings are about, so to understand the background and answer her questions, you definitely have to read those chapters. Attendance and participation are a part of your grade, but as long as you're actively listening and/or taking notes and answering questions occasionally, you're guaranteed a 100% in that aspect. There are two major projects for the class: creating a lesson plan for a certain topic and a Digital Jumpstart. It's hard to get a perfect 100 on them, but it's not difficult to get a high B or an A for these projects. She also allows you to work with partners! The coursework itself is pretty light. She gives an option for the Final: write an essay or write out a whole Lesson Plan. In case you have to miss class, she offers a zoom alternative (be prepared to still participate and do classwork while on zoom!) and she allows you to make up assignments if you email her ahead of time about an illness or excused absence. TL;DR I recommend her for anyone that plans to take this class, but be prepared to put in the time to read the chapters. |
