Amazing guy who knows how to get students involved and cater to everyone. Super chill but definitely knows his stuff about business. Great course strcuture with one asynchronous and one lecture a week and not too much homework. Easy class just pay attention and show up because it’s not hard and not boring. |

Milsom is a good teacher except the fact that he is a full time business owner, so he puts his job as a professor second. He has probably cancelled class at least 5 times this semester, and we only meet in person once a week. He does do a good job at relating things to the real world, which I like. But, he hasn't graded one thing this entire semester yet, and it is almost the end. It probably depends how busy he is to determine if you are going to have a good class or not. I have no idea what my grade will be because he has not graded anything yet, the only things I have gotten back are the automated grades. |

The GOAT. Reyna expects a lot from his students, but really the class isn't that bad. The textbook readings may be a bit long, but they're interesting and everything you learn will apply in your future classes/career. He's also very flexible. If you are vocal about something, he will likely tweak his methods. His classes aren't the traditional read off the slides and teach the content from the ground up. He takes what you read from the textbook the night prior, and applies it to real world scenarios, which keeps the class very engaging. He doesn't allow phones/laptops out during class, but you really won't need them. The hardest part of the class is the group project, but it's not too bad if your group works together and meets a couple of times. The exams aren't too bad, and there were some extra credit opportunities to gain some points back in that category. Overall Reyna was a great professor, these kids who complain wanted him to teach exactly what was in the textbook word for word, which would've been a complete waste of time cause you have to read the textbook anyway. Take Reyna if u want an engaging class that will really get you thinking about the world of business, and prepare you for what is to come. |

This is the best professor i've ever had at smith. he is amazing. that is it. his personality just made the lectures so much more bearable. the exams are very easy you just have to go to class to know your stuff, but the exam questions ARE SO SLIGHT. please take him. he genuinely cares for his students, and will answer any questions you have ABOUT ANYTHING in depth. |

Geoff: The best! Really fun guy who provides real world connections to the stuff we learn in class. I always looked forward to attending his class and wish I could have a teacher like him again. By far one of my favorite professors. Homework: SUPER easy, you can keep doing it until you get an 100%. READ THE TEXTBOOK, it makes things so much easier to understand for both the homework, in class lectures, and exams. Exams: Exams were easy, one midterm and a non-cumulative final. Just read the summary sections of your textbook and take notes on the slides. |

Really awesome professor. Epitome of a business professor. He really does love his students. I got a B because I didn't do great on the midterm but an A is def the usual. His review sessions are VERY helpful. He will list out EVERY topic that will be on the exams. I had 1 midterm, and then the final. Most of the content you really want to focus on is his in-class lectures and his slides. You really shouldn't go through the textbook when you're studying in my opinion -> waste of time. During exams he lets you ask questions and if you're on the right track, but just a bit confused, he might somewhat "guide" you to the correct answer. Just make sure you do everything on time!!! |

Honestly he’s not too bad since the class is really straightforward. To pass exams, actually go to class and read his slides afterwards. attend the exam review as well to pass. Work is also straightforward to do as outside of class you would have to watch videos since we only met once a week and have a major group project creating a business plan. Depending on your group, it is out of your control on who your members are so good luck with hopefully having people that will do the work since you all get the same grade for it (luckily for me, I had good teammates!) overall, go to class since Jeff is an engaging professor and can be funny at times. His examples of topics will help you understand harder concepts better! Also there was no need for a curve since the class average was in the B+ range for exams! |

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Although I ended this class with an A- he gave an excessive amount of work. I would have to spend 5 hours on an extremely repetitive homework assignment that was only a completion grade. He expects his students to know everything about business before even going into the class. When he lectures he talks about his life and his accomplishments like he's trying to brag. The lectures are very hard to follow and halfway through the class I started questioning if what he was talking about was even about the chapter we were supposed to be learning about. He doesn't offer extra credit. Just don't take him. |

Really easy class. Jeff is engaging in lectures. The midterm and final is focused mainly on what he covers in class rather than what is taught from the textbook. Jeff is very chill and offers a lot of help and advice. The midterm and final are 50 MCQ online. There's a group project/paper and presentation worth the majority of the grade but not hard and it's graded by TA's. Attend lectures, the content isn't very difficult but Jeff does a good job at explaining all the concepts. |

I loved Geoff!! He has great industry experience and told a bunch of stories during the lecture. Homework was light, attendance optional but most people enjoy him enough to show up, there's a group project but as long as you cover the basic requirements and are ready to answer his questions you'll be fine. Wish I could take this class again |

The Final Grade is entirely coinflipped based on whether or not you get placed in a good group from the start. My group was feuding the entire semester and it significantly impacted my Final Grade. |

For the love of god, do not take this professor. Like the other reviews stated he expects students to know all the material without ANY prior knowledge and it's quite frustrating especially because this is an introductory course. Lecture feels like an eternity because he goes off-topic and talks about the most random of things, and you could honestly not go and just do the HW and be fine. He has a cool personality but is a terrible instructor. In his own words he "is not there to teach you but to reinforce things you learn on your own time". The project for the class was kinda ok/cool and he grades them harshly but he'll give you an opportunity to make up points. He also makes snarky comments if he doesn't think your question is good enough to answer. TLDR: take a different professor if you want an easy A |

Easy class with a nice professor. His exams are not hard as long as you go over the slides and read the textbook. He curves the exams pretty well too if the average is a bit low. There will also be a group project that you will present on the last day so make sure your group covers all the components on the deliverables since he didn't give us a rubric. He also offers plenty of chances for extra credit so theres no reason why you should get below a B in this class if you're paying attention tbh. |

BMGT110F Expecting a B+ Anonymous 12/15/2023 |
His classes for this course is filled with him speeding through lecture slides which were hard to follow and honestly not very helpful. The homework was very easy since it was just a discussion board and a smart book assignment each week (both for completion). There were 7 pop quizzes throughout the semester but the two lowest were dropped and they were each only worth 1% of your grade. The midterm was very confusing and he didn't scale it as much as the other reviews said he would. The group project was also very confusing and he didn't spend much time explaining it, causing for our group to do poorly on it. |

BMGT110F Expecting a B Anonymous 12/14/2023 |
Very straightforward professor, he lets you know what he expects and the responsibilities students hold (such as completing assignments, etc.). There are a few pop quizzes, but he usually mentions around when there will be one. Gives extra credit, there is one group project, which is not that bad, but definitely estimate the capital and all that since when presenting it's similar to shark-tank you need a demand forecast and all that. I would recommend the professor, although he only reads from slides and students take notes the days we have a pop-quiz if your not in class (he takes attendance) you can't take it (& if you took it since it's online but weren't in class you get a 0!). Class is somewhat blended, there are zoom days! |

Professor Gardner is a great professor. Many of my friends had other professors for BMGT100F and said their work load was a lot easier/lighter BUT I truly think this class taught me a lot, especially the fundamentals of business. Gardner does a great job at explaining everything and puts content into real world situations which is very helpful. The class load is fine and manageable. It's so easy to get a 100% on all the HW's as they are just smartbook assignments. The weekly discussions are also fairly easy, because the TA grades them. If you have the TA: Randy, you are in luck! He is awesome. The only struggle was towards the end for the final group project. The guidelines were a bit unclear, but stay after class and ask questions (this also shows youre a good student and builds relationships) and you'll be okay. |

Jeff provided a sophisticated and wonderful experience in the classroom. I highly suggest you attend his lectures as they are easy to conceptualize and understand. He uses a lot of real-life examples in his lectures and he will always refer back to them during midterm and final exam review sessions. He is a caring teacher who is passionate about what he teaches and has great public speaking skills to keep his student audience engaged. I would one hundred percent take this class again and even teach it as a TA. I would highly recommend staying connected with him throughout your semesters at Maryland for potential career and professional development. |

For an introductory class, Reyna expects a lot from his students. His lectures were not helpful and he didn't cover the material well. His tests were also much more challenging than other classes and some questions covered material we hadn't learned yet. Also talked a lot about his personal life and experiences during lectures even though they weren't applicable. |

This class was not overly hard, but Jeff made it enjoyable and I really felt like I learned a lot. He is a super experienced and knowledgable guy that teaches concepts more like a business mentor, rather than a professor. Group work is super big in this class and the group you are assigned at the beginning of the semester is the one you're stuck with. |

BMGT110F Expecting an A Anonymous 01/13/2023 |
Prof Gardner is in my opinion the best professor for 110F. His class was really chill, you just take notes while he speeds through the slides for each chapter, and he usually ends class 15-30 min early. The assignments were a SmartBook assignment and a discussion post once a week. The bigger assignment throughout the semester is a group project. He wasn't very clear on what he expected from us for the project so my team missed the mark on a few things and it ended up bringing our grades down a bit. The exams are a little confusing but he curved tf out of the midterm and made my 86 a 99. Overall really nice person, probably will choose to have him again in an upper level course. |

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL!!! Justin Reyna is the worst professor in the entire Smith School. He expects everyone to be experts on business before they come in to class and he expects perfection on every assignment. Do not expect to get more than a 1 out of 2 on your discussions unless you are willing to write 600 word essays twice a week. Take literally any other professor than him. He spends most of the class lecturing us about how amazing his businesses are and how he is a literal god send. Never ever take him. |

I loved Prof Gardner. He is genuinely such a nice man and very understanding. Sometimes he makes jokes in class and is able to engage the students by asking questions. He does go through the powerpoints fast but he posts them and explains every concept very well. The exams can be confusing, but if u review your notes you'll be fine because most of it is just knowing the vocab. He curves a lot too. And he offers extra credit assignments that can give you 2 extra points on the exam. |

Jeff is great and definitely has a lot of passion for this course and his students. The class is relatively simple with entry level concepts but there is a big group project that takes a lot of out of class time and creative thinking. The tests aren't bad and are multiple choice online but you should definitely study to get the general ideas down. Discussions are mandatory and worth going to as everything is reviewed and I find it pretty engaging. |

His lectures make you feel like you will fail at life. His lectures often go on tangents and it's confusing how they relate back to the content. However, the few times in class when you get to make paper airplanes to model the operations process is super fun and a great experience. It's bearable if you have to take him, especially if you have a good group for your project, but I would not recommend taking him unless you had to. |

Professor Mund is a very experienced guy. Definitely recommend him as prof. Super flexible with students and a super considerate grader - TA's can be a little harder, though. Not a blow-off class, but exams are extremely fair (come mostly out of lecture) and the workload is certainly manageable. I would suggest when studying to focus on the slideshows he puts together for his in-class lecture as well as the powerpoints for the assigned sections in the textbook. If you study both of these diligently, and understand them, the tests will be a breeze (note: he gives you a good amount of time to take them, plus they're all MC). The work of the class mostly consists of discussion posts, smartbook chapters, and a few group projects, again, all of which are relatively easy. All in all, the class isn't the most interesting and there's definitely work/studying, but Prof. Mund makes it as engaging as possible. If you gotta take it, Mund is a great choice! |

Professor Mund is an absolute legend. He made this class much easier than Reyna or any other professors. You literally don't have to touch the textbook. The class was more lecture-heavy and there was a greater workload in the beginning, but the lectures were entertaining. The last month or so of the semester there was almost never class, and if there was it was on zoom. He's a smart guy, and though his TA's were responsive and useful. The midterm and final counted for 20% each, but they were very easy in my opinion, and the final was done online. You are most likely to lose points on the papers for your business plan, as the TA's graded that a tad harshly, but it depends on the TA you got. The only downside is that you are randomly given a group at the very beginning of the year to work on your papers and presentation and everyone gets the same grade no matter what, so if they don't do anything, then you have to do it. My group was super frustrating, but you'll likely get a much better group. Overall, good teacher though |

He is a good and engaging professor. However, there is a big group project throughout the semester that has no rubric or clear instructions, which are graded by the TAs. He is a really nice professor. He answers questions and really likes to interact with the class. He goes through the powerpoints at a really fast speed, so make sure to type fast. His lectures cover every material that the book does as well. His exams are a lot harder than the actual class. However, the curve is pretty nice. I got a 72% on the midterm and that was curved up to an 84%. The best way to study for this class is to review materials, go over and answer the study guide, and try to find application problems to practice. |

Mund made it really easy to learn in a pandemic. You can probably get by without reading the textbook but I would recommend it if you’re a business major. Easy midterm and final based totally on the lectures which he makes super engaging. He calls on random people in class but he doesn’t go hard on you if you don’t know what you’re saying. He provides his slides before the midterm and final. Weekly discussion posts that are a little redundant and Connect activities that are a total waste of time. There is a group project which can be a little tough if you don’t have good partners. He doesn’t have a rubric for it which is also tough (just prompts) and the grades are based on how well other people in the class do which sucks, just make sure you put a lot of diagrams and use vocab from the textbook. There is a presentation for the project but it doesn’t seem to be graded, at least it wasn’t on the syllabus or Canvas. Overall, pretty great guy and makes class fun. |

Mund is a really nice and lenient professor and super flexible with deadlines. However, I thought lectures in class were pretty boring and there's a group project worth 25% of your grade that was definitely graded harsher than it needed to be (although, this was graded by the TA, not him). Overall, an A is pretty manageable but was probably harder to get than it needed to be since this isn't a very difficult class. |

Not that amazing tbh... he has a big personality which makes him seem interesting, but once you get into his class and listen to his lectures the class is a lot less engaging. Most of his presentations (which the exams are based on rather than the textbook and 100+ question hw assignments he makes you do that takes 1-2 hours to read through and do) are really poorly made and hard to follow. He teaches in a more auditory way rather than visually which can be hard for people who want to take notes during class. He will put either 1-4 words on a slide or a picture and go into profuse details on it which is hard to follow bc he talks really fast and is experienced in the field so he speaks like a business person rather than a teacher. A lot of things he'll talk about in his presentations are also sometimes not even in the textbook. Overall, not a hard grader, and his class is pretty easy, but with reason bc with his teaching, if he was a hard grader there would be a lot of people struggling. Also, he definitely has favorites and will make sure he calls on everyone in class. Honestly, just disappointed by him bc I thought he'd be one of my favorite teachers and he is currently my least favorite as this semester has goneon. |

The in class lectures 9.9/10 times were a complete waste of time and rather annoying to go to especially since they were all at 8am regardless of the section you chose. He did an awful job at preparing students for the exams since he would direct us to look over 400+ terms in the back of the textbook. In the end, the exams were either hit or miss depending on how you studied. We also had a business proposal that ended up being 10-12 pages, but it did not weigh much at all which is frustrating given the amount of work put in for it. I do not recommend taking Turner. Very boring especially early in the morning, and grades harshly for attendance/participation points. |

Do NOT take this class with Hutchins unless you are prepared to read the entire textbook cover to cover. He does not lecture, he does not even BRING UP the material in the class. Most classes are spent looking at the stocks on Wall Street Journal and learning about his personal life. I cannot stress enough how extremely difficult his exams are, and if you don't read every word of that textbook, you are screwed. Going to class is not even close to necessary, except for the "participation points", which you earn by raising your hand and asking him a question about his personal life. If you are taking this class for any reason than a major requirement, don't do it unless you want to read a 500 page textbook cover to cover. |

Do not let Richard Hutchins fool you into thinking he knows what he's talking about. He will say the exact same things everyday and act like you are lucky to have him as a teacher. I learned more from wikipedia than I did Richard Hutchins during that semester. If you want a teacher who undeservingly gasses himself up, this is your guy, but I advise you to just read Robinhood and gain twice the knowledge. |

The blended learning class you don't really learn much, and he gives you no type of preparation for the exam so you just have to have really good memorization skills. He has also never done that whole breakfast thing for us, not even the first class. I think he's a good person but the class was kind of tedious for no reason. |

BMGT110F Expecting a C+ Anonymous 05/22/2018 |
taking Hutchins means taking the class with no teacher. You'll learn way more about his personal life and opinions than you will about the course. There's a big group project that you put a ton of effort into but ultimately doesn't affect your grade, tests are crazy hard considering if you just sat in lecture you wouldn't think there was any material to the course. DON'T TAKE HUTCHINS |

Hutchins was one of the most interesting classes in the business school. I was usually eager to attend his class. He does not teach so you have to take notes from the textbook on your own. He generally lectures on current business events which can be useful to anyone looking for a path in business. If you participate once every 2 or 3 classes you will get 100% for that category. He curves his tests a lot but still study the docs on ELMS and vocab from the textbook. |

Don't take Hugh. In the blended learning class you meet once per week and the whole class is a waste of time. All we did was watch 60 minutes videos and talk about news. Each week you are assigned a tedious 100-200 questions online. |

Hutchins is a nice guy and genuinely cares about his students, but I just don't think he knows how to do that appropriately. He doesn't teach, wasting countless hours going over business stories shared by students in class and speaking about his kids and how many times he got sued (but never lost!). I retained absolutely no information that the course is supposed to teach you, as the most teaching he will do is mumbling back exactly what the textbook says (he will actually take out the textbook and just read it all class). The lectures lack any structure, with no PowerPoints and no notes to follow. There is additionally no work outside of the class except for the group project, which at first seems like a great thing, but only comes to screw you when 75% of the grade is based on 2 tests and you have no way to get the information to stick in your head. If you take Hutchins, you're really opting to have no teacher, and to just take the course entirely on your own. |

I had him in a blended learning class once a week at 8am. We got breakfast, consisting of muffins, bagels, OJ, and coffee. The class was basically just an opportunity to ask questions. If people ran out of questions, he would dismiss a little early or show a video that he planned on showing. He recorded his lectures and expects you to listen to them on your own. There were a few questions in the exam on info in them so if you want to get an A, you should take the 30-45 min it takes to listen to it. Homework each week consisted of one or two learnsmarts consisting of 100 questions each. The class it literally just vocab, so flashcards are your friend. He only curves for certain questions that are bad. One final, midterm, and a group project (paper). He's a nice guy and knowledgable. I just can't give him 5 stars when he doesn't actually teach you. |

for my first business class i was extremely disappointed. he didn't really teach. he would tell stories about his Princeton son, his other high leveled positions, and about Louisiana. never gave us any material for exam review, in fact, we didn't even review in class on what was going to be on the exam. exams contained T/F questions and questions on documents he uploads on elms. don't bother reading the textbook because he doesn't want us to get "bogged down in the weeds." |

Unfortunately, this site does not allow you to award zero stars... From the name of the course, you'll probably expect it to be an easy A. If you have Hutchins, you are dead wrong. Now, this is not because the material is terribly complex or difficult. It's because of the fact that this "course" hardly has any structure. You'll come to class, listen to some rambling about business stories in the news or stock prices, hear some more rambling about his Ivy League sons, past careers, etc., and then about halfway through class, some random quotes from your textbook will be directly read/paraphrased. No lecture, no slideshow, nothing to formally delineate the objectives of that class's lesson. Hutchins repeats himself over and over again about small tedious facts, such as the three main exports of the United States, or the fact that Maryland has tax-free gold. Expect to hear these facts mentioned in at least one in three classes. Now these aspects of the course may lead you to believe that the class is a joke (you're right) and you do not need to attend lecture (you're WRONG). When the midterm rolled around, those who did not attend class were basically screwed. This is because the majority of the test content comes from his "witty" remarks in class and obscure documents posted on Blackboard rather than substantive material. Also, despite numerous requests, Hutchins will not give you any resources to prepare for this exam, such as a study guide, review session or practice test. Despite numerous requests for such materials, his response was "go over your notes, the book, and Blackboard." Umm, okay.... Because of the unanticipated difficulty/obscurity of the questions on the midterm, I took prepping for the final very seriously and attended every lecture. However, when I got to the test, I felt like I was looking at a bunch of trivia questions. The test featured true or false questions about whether or not a specific quote was featured in a particular article he'd posted on Blackboard and questions that were very opinion-driven regarding ethical dilemmas. After the test, I heard that 87.5 was the second highest grade! No wonder Hutchins's average differs so much from that of other professors. Also, there is a business plan project that you are required to work on throughout the semester. Despite the amount of time and effort required for this project, it only comprises 15% of your grade. Therefore, I suggest you don't look to a good grade on this as a "saving grace" for poor test grades. Together, the midterm and the final comprise 75% of your final average, so poor grades here will clearly dominate your average. At the end of Hutchins' course, I went to look back at the course objectives on his syllabus, because I felt like I hadn't learned anything of substance class. Could I give an in depth description for any of these objectives? Nope. Could I tell you the careers and alma maters of Hutchins' sons, his home state, and his favorite place to buy gold? You bet. In short, don't take this professor for 110, and if you must, don't take the course as a joke (even though it is.) |

Like the other reviewers have said, Prof. Turner is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects he teaches. However the cause of my lower-than-average grade was due to the very large amount of vocabulary and readings that are included in the tests. It was hard to judge what material to study, since we had a textbook, packet, as well as a nonfiction book readings included in the tests. This, along with the multiple choice nature of the tests (no partial credit) made it easy to do poorly on tests. If you did poorly on the two exams, you have little to no chance to bring your grade up because there were a total of 4 grades including the tests. |

Very easy course by a really knowledgable professor. You don't really have to go to class ever because he puts all of the slides online and the tests are almost only just vocabulary. Turner is a really interesting guy. If you take the time to engage him you'll make the class a lot easier, and if you're interested in business the classes go by quickly. You'll often watch movies he selects from 60 minutes, and will tell you pretty much everything that's going to be on the test. Make sure you go to class later in the semester because he'll give you answers to questions on the final just for showing up. |

BMGT110F Expecting an A clue 02/06/2011 |
Professor Cohen is overall a very good professor. He seemed very knowledgeable about, and interested in, business and management in the real world. He drew a lot of examples from his own professional experiences and used a wide range of teaching materials, including video clips. Based on my own experience, the best way to succeed on the exams is to do the reading. Pay attention in class because the information will be reinforced there, but the readings are definitely the most effective and complete representation of what will be on the exam. There are a few questions in the exams that start with, "In class, we learned that such-and-such means..." or "We saw in such-and-such video that...", but the majority of the questions come from the reading. The exams are actually pretty tough, which can be a little unexpected because Professor Cohen sometimes implies that they're relatively easy, but if you don't do too well on them, don't freak out. There is a curve at the end of the semester, and it's pretty generous. A lot of the information is fairly easy to understand, but it certainly helps to have some experience in economics. If you've taken AP economics in high school, that can be pretty helpful. I imagine that taking some economic class at the university before/at the same time would probably be just as helpful. Also, another piece of advice: Professor Cohen recommends flashcards as a study tool. I think these help, but they don't replace doing the reading. I did much better on the exams where I just paid attention to the reading, and not so well on exams where I had focused more on making flashcards and less on the information that was not vocabulary-related. Taking notes and making flashcards probably help as a supplement, but definitely, definitely focus on reading the textbook. All in all, I enjoyed this class and I'm glad I signed up for it. |

Great professor, he really wants you to do well and he has your best interest in mind. Not a very hard class, you should definitely go to all the classes and pay attention. He posts the slides so you don't need to take notes necessarily, but you should definitely just pay attention to make sure you understand everything. And it's a small class, so it's not like a huge boring lecture. He also shows videos basically every other class, which is a really nice break and they are always relevant and interesting (usually 60 minutes pieces). He tells you what you need to know for the tests which is helpful because there is often a lot of information and it's hard to determine what really matters and what he really cares about, but he makes it clear. Not a hard class, definitely a worthwhile class to take if you're interested in Business and want to get a general understanding of what it's all about. And if you're going to take the class, definitely take it with Turner--he's very knowledgeable, nice, and funny. |

I love this professor! He is able to bring in his personal experience working for Toys 'R Us into his lectures, and obviously has a great knowledge and passion for all aspects of business. While I already knew a lot of what he was teaching I still found the class enjoyable and compelling - his enthusiasm is enough to make me think twice about being in Supply Chain and Information Systems! As long as you attend class and read the textbooks (don't need to take notes unless you have a really bad memory when it comes to vocabulary), and participate in the group project, you should come out with a big fat plump A. A great course for anyone who wants to learn how to read the business section of the newspaper and learn about all the majors offered at the business school! |

Professor Cohen is a very nice guy and he means well. However, his try-to-come-off-as-very-nice attitude can sometimes be his undoing. He has a lot of experience in the business world and he frequently gave useful and practical advice that ca only be learned from experience. However, I felt that his scholastic knowledge of business was sometimes lacking, as was shown by his frequent inability to helpfully answer questions. Though I normally wouldn't really care about this, it made his exams more difficult because he taught the class in a discussion setting rather than in an academic setting which is how his exams were organized. Still, he was a good professor to have, he was very easy to talk to and reach out of class and he was a nice guy. |
