Mechanics II

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C- in ENES102; and (MATH141 and PHYS161). Restriction: Must be in a major in ENGR-A. James Clark School of Engineering; and must not be in Engineering: Electrical program. Stress and deformation of solids-rods, beams, shafts, columns, tanks, and other structural, machine and vehicle members. Topics include stress transformation using Mohr's circle; shear and moment diagrams; derivation of elastic curves; and Euler's buckling formula. Design problems related to this material are given in lab. Supplemental in-person active learning opportunities will be available to students who choose to complete their coursework on campus. These experiences will provide opportunities to utilize makerspaces and to work in small groups with other students.
