Special Topics in Data Gathering and Analysis; Using Investigative Tools in Reporting

Prerequisite: A university statistics course. Introduces students to the journalists and techniques behind award- winning investigations. In-class meetings will dissect these stories, often with the reporters who did them. Reporters will share the methods behind their success and you'll experiment with them. Students will work on reporting stories through online tools, human sources, records, data and observation. Students will learn techniques that apply to all forms of journalism and all beats, whether broadcast or multi-platform, public affairs or sports.
