Special Topics in Data Gathering and Analysis; Political Analysis

Prerequisite: Must have completed a university statistics course. Students are provided with advanced research skills to analyze elections, including political parties, candidates, news coverage, and voters. This will include a review of studies of election coverage as well as learning how to deploy a range of research tools in order to gain deeper understanding of elections and voting behavior. Students will learn how to conduct comparative analysis of campaign materials, analyze candidate performance, assess media treatment of candidates, forecast results as well as introduce students to a range of analytical tools for tracking data in traditional and social media.
