Totally agree with the last review. The TA, Jade would grade very harshly for the weekly assignments, and also only give negative feedback and no positive. Slevc is super nice, but the lack of material and 'brief' skims of information he gives in class makes it nearly impossible to know what 'you need to know' for the exams/quizzes. My class also highlighted these issues and no change. Considering the exams/quizzes are open-note, open book, if we learned the material in class....we should have the notes on the questions right? Wrong. I understand they want to make it more difficult because of this part, although as someone who has been to every lecture, studied the material, and still received low scores on these things proves that the material was not focused on enough in class or rather, really at all other than a brief sentence.

terrible TA. grades way too harsh. no one cares about a 300 level class this much but her. is ridiculous. said she did not agree with a comparison i made even though it was in the readings and took 3 points off.... stay away

The last rating is pretty accurate I don't understand why the grading can't just be fair and we have to have a constant discussion about why some questions just don't make sense. Grade probably depends on the TA I think this one has been grading way too harsh. Slevc is really cool and nice though

He's a really funny professor and generally very nice, but his lectures are impossible to take notes on because he puts next to know information on the slides. The weekly quizzes are also extremely unfair. There are often two choices that both could be considered correct answers and when he reviews them he gives the weirdest reason for why one is slightly better than another. It's an interesting course, but don't expect to get the grade you usually get in other psych classes. I found PSYC300 to be more fair and easy than this course. My class has brought up how we think the quiz questions are slightly unfair and he always says things like, "well if they were easy then everyone would be getting A's and it would look like I give A's to everyone." That's not true. If they were FAIR, people who pay attention in lecture and do the readings will get A's on the quizzes. It's honestly insane that he wants his students to not get A's so he can look like a "better" professor. If your students all fairly earn A's, then it's because they put in the work to do so. Again, the professor is really funny and his lecture is entertaining, but his grading is completely out of pocket. So is the TA, Jade D. She is one of the worst TA's I have had my whole life.

She literally is the worst TA I have ever had and takes points off for the most random things not even related to psychology. Never take this class if she's the TA. If I understand the psychology concepts and she admits that in the grade she gave me, there should be no reason I get a C on an assignment because my work wasn't "creative" enough. I literally understand the psychology concept. Give me at least a B+

I thoroughly enjoyed taking PSYC341 with Dr. Martinez! Lectures were engaging and useful, and he seemed very enthusiastic about the subject which enhanced my learning experience. The readings aren't that bad, and they do help with learning the content & quizzes. But as long as you attend lectures and pay attention and review materials, you should do fine! The papers were not difficult, and many of the quizzes got dropped so I ended with most of them being a 10/10. Would really recommend!

Great professor with great lectures. Important to attend classes and take notes. There are quite a bit of readings but they help for the quizzes. As long as you do your work and review material the class is great! I definitely recommend PSYC341 with him!

Dr. Martinez was a fantastic professor. His lectures in general were very engaging and easy to follow. As long as you show up to class you'll learn a good chunk of the material. The exams and quizzes are pretty straightforward and there's not any trick questions (Exams consist of anywhere between 40-50 MC & 3 FRQ, but you only have to answer 2). You do have to do the readings, but as long as you use his study guide with the terms and pull the info from both his powerpoints and the readings you can definitely do great on the test (I never scored below an A on any of the exams-including the final-doing this). He drops 4 of the lowest quiz grades, and the papers are very easy with clear instructions, just follow his rubric and the example paper he gives with each paper and you'll get a high score + the longest paper is 3 pages double spaced so definitely low stress. Overall he was a great professor that makes it pretty easy for you to get a good grade in the class and I would take him again!

Professor Martinez is super nice & sweet! However, the reasons why I am giving him 3 stars out 5 is because of the way he structured the class. One pro about the class was that the papers are very easy you have 3 to do for the whole semester. Another pro is that he drops 4 of your lowest quiz grades so you have some leeway to miss class just in case you are sick/don't feel like going. One con about his class is that all the quizzes and exams are in person, closed note, and very difficult. You really have to read all the readings and make sure you take good notes. The final exam is cumulative so be ready for that! Second con is that his lecture slides are not helpful at all. They consist of bullet points that he just reads off of without adding to them and not putting definitions of the concepts on the slides, so when you try and go back to study they are not helpful since you are just looking at words. His lectures can be a bit boring and not engaging at all which is why a lot of people would leave in the middle of class. Third con, he does not release the quiz/exam answers to see what you got wrong which is not helpful because we want to be able to look back on them and see how we can study better and get an explanation of why an answer was right. Overall, the class wasn't too bad but can use a lot of improvements.

This class is super interesting, if a little technical. The lectures can be extremely dense and the Powerpoint slides usually have very little text on them, mostly graphs. But he explains each experiment and each graph extremely well. You need to take really detailed notes to understand everything, which is tough when he says so much so fast, but rewatching the parts of lecture you missed helps. The tests were all extremely simple multiple choice -- about 1/3 of each test comes directly from the weekly ELMS quizzes, which weren't too bad either if your notes were detailed. The professor's also just a nice dude.

The most boring and vague lecturer ever. His powerpoints are just graphs and he does an awful job at explaining them. Posts lectures but you can barely hear him. He takes forever to get to the point and repeats the same vague explanations in different ways whenever you ask a question. He was the only option so I had to take him. The overall class isn't awful but he shouldn't be teaching this class.

I liked him a lot. He was funny and tried to engage the class, even when the material was somewhat dull. The assignments were interesting and fairly graded.

Dr. Dougherty is a pretty funny guy, and the class is very straight forward. Grades are pretty much proportional to effort put in.
