SPAN798D

Open Seminar; Cervantes (1547-1616)

The course will consist in a chapter by chapter commentary of Don Quixote (1605; 1615), with selections from Miguel de Cervantes' (1547- 1616) other works: La Galatea, Novelas ejemplares, Ocho comedias y ocho entremeses, Persiles y Sigismunda, El viaje del Parnaso and Poetry. The novel will be commented at the literal and historical levels, as well as in its symbolical and widely anthropological dimensions. We will attempt to establish a dialogue between Don Quixote and Cervantes's oeuvre and and the narrative and philosophical traditions of Europe, United States and Latin America. We will also take into consideration Don Quixote's universal impact in music, popular culture and the visual arts.
