I need a bingo card for the insanity of this class. I can count on one hand the number of times he has NOT brought up the movie Se7en in class, typically done in the fashion of comparing something that he likes to Morgan Freeman, but one time directly insulting us by comparing the class to Brad Pitt's character as we struggled to answer a question (speed run was a Se7en mention in under 7 minutes of him entering the room). He is also incredibly rude and pretentious. If you ever have to take his class, prepared to be Wrong because you simply Do Not Understand. And then he will go off on a tangent about literally whatever your supposed Wrongness reminds him of. Sometimes you will tune out of a conversation about early 1900s political philosophy for 5 seconds and come back and he's calling you all rubric junkies while scratching his arms for the 50th times for asking what a text is about. Additionally, while not believing in rubrics, he gives piss poor assignment descriptions and is a harsh grader so by the end you kind of just give up and just accept that you will never submit anything good. He also shows up to class late every single class and I think it is because he does not leave his office until class is supposed to start, but if you don't show up you are screwed.

As everyone has said, he's very enthusiastic, but I believe his teaching style needs to improve so that his students can get the most out of the class. Essays and attendance dictate your grade in the course, but there are barely any discussions. It was pretty much just lectures on at times random Latin American content in which he would try to force his students to say sexual or outlandish things. Don't even get me started (sigh). While he is certainly very informed and willing to help if needed, he comes off as someone who is eccentric to the extent that he is annoying. I wish he would think a bit more about how his students feel in his class and not just rant or lecture the whole time. I am here to learn Spanish and discuss interesting cultural content, not hear your voice and your thoughts twice a week. There are essentially no discussions in his class so it is hard to get to know anyone or to get as much as you can out of the content. Regardless, I did learn a lot about different types of literature, but the organization and structure could've been so much better.

Prof. Quintero-Herencia is incredibly enthusiastic about the content of this course, and makes some pretty profound connections to very broad themes. Unfortunately this will often lead to him going off on huge tangents that can seem rather irrelevant to the course content. He is indeed a very lenient grader, and I definitely got a much higher grade in the class than what I deserved for the work that I put in. The class is not organized all too well, however. It takes him a long time to get grades up on ELMS, and a whole 50% of the final course grade comes from assignments that you turn in after the last day of class, leading to a lot of uncertainty in your grade until it's all said and done.

JCQH is an easy grader, but he doesn't go far in depth enough into materials nor did he really 'push' any of his students.

Prof. Quintero's one of the most engaging professors I've ever had. He is (or at least seems) really enthusiastic about the "themes" that underlie the class, and creates an excellent narrative to unite them. He's really intense, and may seem a bit intimidating at first, but he really just wants to make sure you get something out of the class. He truly cares about his students' progress, and will go out of his way to give you feedback.
