Advanced Topics in Civil Engineering; Data Analysis in the Built Environment: An Introduction to R

This is an interdisciplinary course focusing on building strong data science skills through application. Students will learn various modes ofdata acquisition, including how to bring in data and restructure it for analysis. In addition, students will learn how to examine data visually and how to conduct exploratory data analysis. Students will also learn the basics of code reproducibility, techniques for managing, storing andaccessing large data streams, and will be introduced to modern statistical modeling. This is an applied course designed to enhance students' computing and data analytic skills. Students will be expected to be active learners and to develop a hands on appreciation ofworking with large datasets in an interdisciplinary setting. Students are assumed to have little no R experience.
