Leaving ;-; Singh was a great teacher, and always made sure that everyone's writing was greatly and thoroughly reviewed during our workshops. He was extremely lenient with due dates, and really provided constructive feedback that allowed me to grow more confident with my writing. I was definitely pretty scared of having my writing reviewed by other people, but he made sure that the experience was extremely beneficial and enlightening. |

Amazing class. I was nervous when I learned we would all have to workshop our writing with the class, but Professor Ismail was really encouraging and made the first few classes just about reading a wide range of inspiring work. By the time workshop came around I was definitely excited. The class is chill and mostly focused on learning how to create fiction, but not in a prescriptive way. I appreciated that. Professor Ismail was really easy to talk to and super smart despite being such a young professor. I wish I could take it again and I would recommend to anyone interested in writing. |

Anna was amazing. She was always so kind and sweet and never made us feel uncomfortable in her classroom. When reviewing our writings, she would never judge but ask us questions and give compliments and suggestions where she could. The craft lessons were relevant and fun to our writing, as well as the workshops. The workshops with other students were well done, just lengthy, and it allowed us to see different perspectives from those who are of similar age. She was always so accommodating if students needed it and was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend taking a class with her. |

I LOVE this woman to pieces, let me tell you. She is a phenomenal instructor who always has creative, helpful, and constructive feedback even when the rest of the class doesn't. She cares for her students and has a great sense of humor. She's understanding of people's time and responsibilities outside of her class, so her deadlines have some flexibility to them. If you miss a workshop of someone you'll be expected to give them and her feedback. It doesn't have to be long, maybe just a paragraph or two. But if you want to improve your writing and even your confidence in writing, take her class. |

THE BEST. I'm writing after she gave us cookies today on the last day of class 🥲. So sweet and genuine. I really enjoyed the class, having the freedom to write about whatever you want and experiment while also getting peer and teacher feedback was amazing. The class is a bit of work, readings can be a little long and you should start your stories early. Discussions can also be a little dry, but idk what you would do about that as a teacher. I can imagine if you do not like fiction writing that this class will be a slog, but if you enjoy fiction and/or want to dip your toe into writing, this will be a very enjoyable experience. Probably going to be one of my favorite classes. |

I loved loved loved this class. As someone who used to write when I was younger but abandoned it in high school, this class brought my spark back! Class consists of some readings in the beginning to inspire you. Then, each student will have two workshops in which they submit a 7-12 page fiction story about anything they please. During the workshops, the class reviews the work, asks questions, and gives suggestions. My favorite part of this class was getting to read everyone's work. |

I had Ms. Hansen during the Fall 2022 semester, and she was one of the kindest professors I encountered at UMD. She leaves great feedback on your writing and really makes the class a comfortable, positive environment. I wish I could take her class again. |

Expect to read some of the best stories ever written in Professor Daschle’s class. He has great taste in books and stories, and the assigned readings are always super fun to read, and are very diverse in their authors and narrative styles. Definitely take this class if you’re a reader. The actual meat of it: This class is an easy A: everything is graded on completion, not quality, and the Professor is flexible on deadlines if asked. You’ll have an about 400 words to write each week: a response to a 5-6 page story or essay that will be the assigned reading (these are insanely fun to read). There will be 2 workshop stories you’ll have to write: 5-10 page original works that you’ll revise at the end of the semester for your final grade (this class doesn’t have a final). There will also be in class discussions on your and your classmates’ stories to help you improve. The easiest way to lose points is attendance: you MUST show up to these discussions every week. There’s one discussion, one lecture, not intense at all. Mostly just a chat over writing with people who love stories. The Bottom Line: don’t take this class if you don’t read or write or don’t enjoy stories in your spare time. If you do, DEFINITELY don’t miss this one. |

Easy A course if you complete the assignments and show up to the 2 classes in a week. Professor Daschle is a pretty chill guy, a fun lecturer and really makes everyone feel included: he's pretty young too so relatable overall. Drops movie/ book references left and right which is pretty fun. Also a really fair grader: weekly assignments are graded on completion and not quality, and Professor Daschle always has something nice and helpful to say about your writing. The Actual Course Breakdown: Expect to have to read a 2-5 page story or essay each week and have to respond to it in about 500 words. Easy stuff, Professor Daschle has great taste in stories and they are definitely something that you might read in your spare time: they don't feel like class readings at all. Responses are graded on completion, not quality. The easiest way to lose a grade would be participation: there will be a total of 2 longer 5-10 page Workshop Stories you'll have to write, and "workshops" on your/ your classmates' stories every week where you show up to give feedback on the story that's being workshopped. SHOW UP TO THESE DISCUSSIONS for the participation grade. Definitely would take this class again. Perfect for both people looking to get into writing more seriously and beginners who just want the DSSP credit. |

Professor Ross is AWESOME. He is so supportive and understanding of his students, and he truly does his best to make each and every student feel welcomed and valued. I had him for an 8AM class, so nearly every class period we would all walk in like zombies, but his enthusiasm and energy was infectious. He inspired really interesting and thoughtful class discussions, and was present in these discussions without talking over his students. He is very intelligent yet incredibly down to earth, authoritative but not arrogant. He is really open about himself and his life, and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know all of us. I've never had a professor who seemed to care so deeply for their students. Please, if you get the chance, take a class with Professor Ross. You absolutely will not regret it. |

I was scrambling last minute to fulfill a DSSP and this class was still available. One of the best decisions I've made! Meghan is a wonderful professor who is passionate about writing. In this class, students will write 2 short stories, partake in workshop days, and complete a few easy critical response papers. Definitely, take ENGL272 if you enjoy writing. |

A really fun, lively teacher. He understands the struggle of college students and gives us extensions when we need them. He is also really open about his family and likes to hear the class talk before a session begins. He teaches really well too, bringing in personal experiences to make us understand better. Recommend 100% |

The best English professor I've ever had, I usually have nothing to say about any professor but she genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She lets you use your creativity past your limits. Class itself isn't that hard with only a couple of major writing assignments and occasionally some assigned readings with a short quiz. Be prepared to discuss with other classmates. |

Meghan is amazing. She's so sweet and understanding, she really cares about her students. I missed one of the workshop days because of things going on in life and she completely understood. I've never seen a professor say your mental health is more important than my class. While there were readings for a little, everything is structured around reading each others stories. I enjoyed this class a lot. Thank you Meghan for just being you. |

ENGL272 Anonymous 12/19/2020 |
Prof.Onyenezi is a wonderful teacher, he is very receptive with a great sense of humor and really cares for his students. The discussions in class were always interesting and he really places importance on giving good feedback and being respectful. He put an emphasis on finding our own voices throughout the creative writing course so there aren't many rules. Along with writing there are also weekly readings so be prepared for that, participation is what makes or breaks this course. Overall a pretty chill class that I looked forward to, Mr.Onyenezi is a solid professor choice. |

This Professor is by far the most caring and intelligent person I've encountered in my whole academic career. She really made me value my work and my thoughts. She created an inclusive classroom that transformed my mind. 10/10. |
