Basic Helping Skills: Research and Practice

Prerequisite: PSYC300. Restriction: Must be in Psychology program; and must have earned a minimum of 85 credits; and must not have completed or be concurrently enrolled in EDCP 310. Credit only granted for: EDCP210, EDCP310, or PSYC433. Theories and research regarding effective helping relationships, with a focus on applications to counseling and psychotherapy. Students will practice helping skills with each other and will conduct research projects evaluating their helping skills. Students should be willing to talk about personal issues in class. Attendance in labs is mandatory and contributes to the course grade; thus, students should only enroll in a lab section that they will be able to attend consistently.
