Restricted to first semester first year students in the College of Arts and Humanities. Beginning with the origins of the spoken and written word, this class will focus on the impact of words on relationships and cultural understanding. Exploring words from a variety of perspectives (sociolinguistic, interpersonal and intrapersonal) and as part of a dialogue on the intersectionality of race, class and gender, this course will consider the dynamic between words and their impact as we encounter them.
