Most chill guy I have ever met and is willing to meet the amount of energy you are willing to put into the class. If you are taking it for a Gen ed, he will basically ask for your class time, and if you are actually looking to improve your writing, you will make great strides

She was very kind and a great professor to have. One thing I really liked was how organized the class was: the weekly assignments were consistent and you know what you need to do. You can tell she is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, and I would 10/10 recommend people to take this course with her.

Really chill and relaxed professor who knows how to light conversations about the material and subject when everyone is drained of energy. He has essentially unlimited information for people who are looking to improve their writing and fiction. If poetry and writing is your thing, then you should definitely take this class. If it isn't, you should give it a try, because he is very accommodating to the skeptics/those without the same energy.

Professor Collins is awesome. She is super accommodating and nice. Easily my favorite Gened I have ever taken and I actually feel like I got something out of it (becoming a better writer). Unlike most needlessly stressful Geneds, this one actually was a stress reducer for me last semester.

this man is awful. he talks over you and only cares about what he has to say. if you say something he does not agree with he is genuinely condescending. was rude during class and picked favorites

Easy class, and great professor. He grades based on attendance, turning in assignments on time, and participation, so it should be an easy A if you do all of those things.

They are super nice, a lovely person and approachable but not prepared. Cancelled class several times an hour in advance (for an 8am with mostly commuter students). Not a hard class but extremely boring.

This was an enjoyable class. Very peer feedback heavy. But the workload was not heavy at all -- unless you wanted to write extra poems and short stories on your own. Mr. Hatcher gave great feedback on all of my submissions and was pretty lenient about due dates. He definitely came off a little weird at times, but overall a lovely class.

Was super super excited to take this class but Hatcher really zaps it out of you. He isn't rude, but he is very pretentious and really likes to hear himself talk. Participation is VERY important, but I got points taken off for leaving to go to the bathroom... The class itself and curriculum is great but Hatcher makes it really hard to like him as a person.

She is a kind and compassionate young woman. The classwork is easy and she is an encouraging instructor. However, she was rather disorganized and cancelled class 60-70% of the time. Out of the typical 30 classes, she cancelled half. I recommend her but her teaching style doesn't mesh with my learning style.

Lovely professor who enjoys writing! This class was a nice elective and I enjoyed it a lot. You submit one short story and one poem and the class and professor read and give feedback. I personally learned a lot about writing and the revision process. I would take her again for sure.

Very easy class and she is very kind and understanding. Turn things in on time, participate in class a little, and you'll get an easy A.

This was Shonte's first semester teaching, but she did a fantastic job. It was a small class size, but she kept consistent pacing, offered a reasonable amount of relevant readings (not too many), and kept the class engaging throughout the semester. The environment was kept relaxed and thoughtful, and students were always welcome to speak their minds. I learned a lot about my own writing and others'. Great instructor!
