Did not pay attention at all during lecture. Gives unreasonable amount of work for the most useless class I’ve ever taken.

Nice guy, very easy going class once a week but the class structure is horrendous. No matter what you do, what you study, it is nearly an impossible feat to get an A. I knew kids who studied hours on end to just barely pass the two exams which make up 40% of your grade. His exams are all situation based/theoretical so multiple answers work but you have to choose the best option on an all multiple choice test. He doesn't tell you what you did wrong and in class he says that multiple options can fit answers. This course is just terrible and their is basically nothing you can do to improve.

Dr. Lefkoff is very sweet and energetic and tried her best to make the class engaging. There's a group project but if you have a bad group you'll probably lose points on the assignments. The exams are weighted way too much which in the end hurt my final grade a lot. It sucks having an A the entire semester but not doing good enough on the final to keep it. She also doesn't provide a study guide so it was hard to figure out what exactly to study.

A really kind professor! She seems genuinely interested in the students' learning and does not try to trick you. So long as you keep up with lectures and skim over the textbook ever so often, you are more than capable of having a good grade in the class. The structure of the class itself is watching video lectures on Mondays, and attending class on Wednesdays where she reinforces those concepts with case studies and real life examples. One thing to take note of is the semester long group assignments, where weekly assignments are due; those do comprise a significant portion of the grade distribution so really pick your people wisely. Other than that, I had a good time and couldn't recommend her enough.

I really like Dr. Lefkoff as she is a very enthusiastic and engaging. However, I truly was not a huge fan of this course. The exams are weighted too heavily and can be difficult to study for. There is also a group project with weekly assignments that makes up a large part of your grade. The project is easy but can be annoying if you get a bad group.

As the other reviews say, the exams are impossible. I went to every lecture and didn’t gain much, and the lectures didn’t help me perform well on the exams. I got a 60% on the midterm and a 50% on the final, yet I studied way more for the final exam. The questions are very in depth and not related to what we went over in class at all. The curve is the only saving grace to this class.

Her weekly quizzes and videos are way too hard for no reason. They are timed and you actually stress about them. Her exams are challenging because you really need to understand the topics and there is just so much information to learn. The one good thing is there is no final and you only meet once a week. She's a very nice lady but come on its marketing, it should be fun!

Great professor and super interesting. Clear expectations and rubric for the class. 35% of your grade is from midterm and a final exam which are pretty hard. They are randomized multiple choice questions on a lockdown browser in-person exam room. Average grades were 80% on both of them which is why most students get an A- or B+

Very sweet and engaging lady. The structure of the course for the exams to be so much of your grade is terrible and grades are not handed out in this class. The group project is a lot of your grade as well and groups are assigned randomly. I know some groups struggled far more than others but I was lucky enough to have a good one. She's not the greatest professor, but the business school has some of the worst at this school which makes this lady seem like a ray of sunshine. Overall, nice lady, terrible course structure.

Professor Furst is the kindest professor I've had so far. She makes an effort to know every one of her students and always asks how we are doing in the course and constantly offers support and advice. She is also an extremely good instructor because she makes the material very relatable. The course itself is good and the course load isn't too much work (3 assignments a week and an in-class assignment). I would recommend Furst over any other instructor for this course.

Dr. Boyd, while possessing a charming and friendly demeanor, teaches a course in which it is impossible to learn. His lectures are meandering and difficult to follow, and his examinations and course materials have little to do with actual lecture content. In fact, his examinations differ so far from the assigned textbooks, that he will ask questions relating to other chapters that we were not being tested on, or even material that was never covered in lecture OR the textbook at all! You will do extremely poorly on his exams. However, since literally everyone else does just as badly, you will be granted a generous curve. You will not be able to properly gauge how much you learned because the class average hovers around a 55%. If you want to actually learn, you should not take his course.

Extremely nice teacher. Tries very hard to make the once a week classes interesting and engaging, and uses examples that we are familiar with to get tough concepts to click. She is very understanding and helpful if you are confused, and puts in a lot of effort to make sure you succeed in the class. Exams are kinda hard, but she is an amazing person and will help you a lot if you put the time in.

Professor Lefkoff was very pleasant, engaging, had great energy, and graded very fairly. Follow the rubrics closely for written assignments and there’s no way you’ll get less than an A on them. Professor Lefkoff herself was as great as a marketing teacher as you’ll get, but the content is seriously the worst I’ve ever had to work through. Every concept is something you should already know intuitively, but it’s given a fancy marketing term that you need to remember for the exams. I’m an excellent reader and exam-taker, and I did well, but the content was truly miserable and, for lack of a more elegant word, BORING. I would highly recommend taking it with Lefkoff, since she truly improves it as much as she can, and I’d also recommend taking it online over the summer. For exams: check out Professor Lefkoff’s PowerPoints when you’re in need of a study guide, be sure to remember the topics she spends more significant time on, study the topics from the written assignments, and check the key terms/summaries at the end of the chapters. You’ll dislike the exams and enjoy the course-long series of written assignments, so long as you have good teammates.

He seems like a really nice person but a terrible teacher. This class is really poorly organized. He regularly gives assignments that you complete with a group and he grades them comparative to other groups in your class. No clear rubric is provided either so you don't know what you are losing points for. The lectures do not match up with the exams or the assignments. The average exam grades are consistently 50-60% but he curves it which is nice. No matter how hard you study though, there is no way that you will get an A or B on the exam. This class was very frustrating and I would recommend taking it with a different professor if possible.

She was super friendly, but this class was really boring as a 9:30 am. The videos she posted based on her old Zoom lectures were what I watched when I skipped classes (which was a lot). Definitely just find quizlets for both exams and you should be okay. The exams are difficult because they are so many terms in this course that are similar but I did well even though I barely went to class.

Bonavia is really a solid professor. She's well-rounded and is beyond passionate about what she's teaching. The real-life examples that she uses in class make her lectures unforgettable. Her lectures are also really valuable because the weekly quizzes and exams will always ask questions on the examples she uses in class. One thing that is slightly annoying are the in-class assignments she gives just because I don't really feel like it adds to my knowledge or help me grasp the concepts in any way.

Interesting guy but terrible professor. First off his exams have nothing to do with the textbook or the lectures so it is impossible to study or prepare. He references specific companies than were never discussed whatsoever and asks in depth questions on the exams. He gives a curve but it is impossible to know what grade you will receive until he releases the final grades after the year is over.

The class is super easy all semester except for the two exams. The two exams make up a massive part of your grade and the questions are all mostly application and definitional questions that could go either way most times. Other than that, lectures are pretty typical and are easily skippable. The homework and simulations are quick and the research bonus is a nice grade booster. Idil is super nice and understanding and I had no issues with her in class.

Dr. Lefkoff is wonderful and very enthusiastic. She cares about her students and was understanding of student needs. The class overall is very textbook heavy. What I mean is that you can basically understand everything and pass the exams by just focusing on the textbook. She has a group project and then 3, 60 question exams. The exams are all multiple choice, pretty straightforward, but very long and boring. I literally outlined every chapter and memorized all of the main points. If you do this, the class is not bad at all. Her lectures are pretty boring and class participation isn't mandatory so more than half of the class never goes, but if you participate she will remember you. I personally always went to class, never used a laptop, sat relatively close, and answered questions every once in a while. In the end when I should have received an A- she gave me an A, this is all without ever having a personal conversation with her. I was borderline and I'm sure that my engagement is what pushed me over.

Lefkoff is the typical marketing professor; friendly, enthusiastic, and engaging. She loves to tell stories and she even admits early on that she goes more in-depth with the topics instead of just running you through the textbook terms. The good news is that means you get some interesting classes with games and activities. The bad news is that for the tests, you have to read the textbook to actually learn the terms you're being tested on. Her tests are reasonable and the marketing assignments you get are an easy A. You do have to do a presentation at the beginning of a class based on a current event that matches the chapter of the day, but that's graded generously as well. I have heard the other BMGT350 are amazing too, but you can't go wrong with Lefkoff!

Dr. Lefkoff is a very, very nice person. She is so enthusiastic and loves what she does. As many people have mentioned her teaching does not really correspond with the textbook. In other words, you will fail if you do not read the textbook. Her exams are mainly memorizing definitions from the textbook, so definitely make flash cards or something. Also her exams always have questions about class discussions or about videos we watch in class, so make sure you go to class!! Everyone is required to make a 4 minute presentation, so almost all of our classes in the semester started with 4 different presentation, so that took up about 15-20 minutes of our class time. We do a lot of group/partner work. Class is kinda boring, but Dr. Lefkoff is always so enthusiastic. There's some hw that's pretty easy. I would say it's pretty easy to get an A if you read the textbook and memorize the definitions, go to class, and do all the hw/research. She is very nice and I would definitely recommend taking it with her!

Dr. Lefkoff is really nice, and very energetic. In class, she just goes over some terms, which will not cover everything you need for the exam (you'll have to read the book for that). The exams are 60 multiple choice, which are not very difficult, but it's not that easy to get an A in either. We also had some students presentation each class, which pretty much, nobody listens too, but count for 10% of your grade. From time to time, she'll also show some videos, give some examples or discuss something in class that isn't on the textbook, and that will probably end up as exam questions (in our last exam, I counted at least 5-6 questions like this). To me, this class basically just consisted in memorizing a bunch of terms, so I can't say I've gotten much from it (as others have put it, pretty much a useless class). If you end up in her class (especially the 9:30am section), you'll enjoy it, because she's always super excited and full of energy, but be prepared to put in the effort to read the book to do well in the exams. Overall, it's probably easy to get a B, but very hard to get an A in the end.

Good professor and nice guy. His lectures are awesome and he ties in real world examples for everything he teaches. Makes this a fun class and i guarantee you will never be bored in his class. Ofcourse, just as everyone mentioned his tests are impossible. You have to read the book to do decent but even that doesn't guarantee you an A. Most people who get A's generally get lucky with the curve in their favor. Even though his tests are hard, I would recommend taking him. Lefkoff is a very excitable, high-energy woman. Some days she's just bouncing all over the place, going in and out of different voices and just overall acting crazy. Her lectures are interesting, although not necessarily relevant to the textbook (which contains 90% of the exam material but is never covered in class). The exams are not overly difficult, but it is not easy to get an A. There are also few opportunities for points outside of the exams (75% of total). I very much like Lefkoff as a person. She's very nice but I just don't get much out of her class. Of the 75 minutes she has us, 15-20 is spent on student article presentations that everyone more or less ignores, ~20 minutes for some awful video that will put you to sleep, but probably wind up as an obscure exam question, and the rest of the time is just her speaking excitedly on just a small fraction of the chapter we will be tested on. If you are good at memorizing long lists of terms for exams, you may do well in this class, but I can't say I learned much in regard to marketing.

If you want a professor who shows consideration for their students, do not take Lefkoff. She is not understanding and does not work with you to resolve unique issues/problems. Here is a direct quote from her final email: "Please note that there is NO EXTRA CREDIT. It is not an option, at all, under any circumstances. Please do NOT ask for extra credit. I will not respond to any emails that request extra credit." Her teaching method is also very odd, she lectures off of her own notes and then pulls exam questions from some test bank that she didn't teach to.

I agree with everyone when they say he is an awesome guy, fun person to get to know, and will definitely try and help you but he just does not know how to make tests. I would highly recommend taking Letkoff or whoever else is teaching BMGT350 because in the end, your grade does matter. I don't, by any means, echo the extreme positivity in the reviews which convinced me to take her class. Her tests are fair-ish, there are usually 3-5 ambiguous questions per 60 question test. What was a problem were her "discussion board assignments." She grades them like full on papers, even though the syllabus makes it seem like they are supposed to be discussions. She refused to give full credit to anyone in the entire class, and when asked why she said she didn't believe that anyone in the class of hundreds deserved full credit on any of their 4 papers. The class average on one of her tests was a 76 and she didn't do any sort of curving. She wasn't horrible, but definitely not a full 5 stars.

Professor Lefkoff is one professor I would never forget. She is so enthusiastic and inspiring. She does everything in her power to make subjects interesting. As someone that does not particularly like the subject, the way she teaches the course helps me find the material a bit interesting and worth concentrating on. HOWEVER, her teaching method does not correspond to the way she makes the exam. There are always some areas of confusion. If you are not a good test taker, you would most likely fail every of her tests which make about 85% of your grade. The tests are also tiring. There are 60 questions for 75 minutes and you have to really think through any of them to get the right answers, which is not always given. I won't necessarily recommend her, but if you end up in her class, make sure to have a very strong plan of attack.

Nearly useless professor. She's a nice woman but it's absolutely ridiculous how she teaches. First of all, she did not make the powerpoints. She gets them from Cengage, which is the company that produced the textbook. The textbook only touches on the most important aspects, but it ignores some of the smaller aspects, which are on the exam. Even worse, her lectures are based almost entirely on the powerpoints. I was reading the book before class and I learned absolutely nothing new. She even uses the same examples given in the book. She skips through a lot of crucial information in the powerpoints, which are eventually on the exam. But you are almost obligated to attend class because she uses some case studies or videos (like 2 or 3 per midterm), and those are on the midterm/final. The worst part is she tests you on things that have nearly nothing to do with the course, and would not help you whatsoever in the future, and would not matter whatsoever if you remember it or not. For example, asking what juices a specific company produces. Who cares?

Professor Lefkoff is very animated and makes the classes fun and interesting. She's a really nice person to listen to, but the material can be a bit pointless. The exams are also pretty hard because there's always 2 or 3 answers that seem plausible. If you don't test well, it'll be a challenging class because exams make up pretty much all of your grade. This was probably one of the most pointless classes that I have sat though at UMD. The way her exams are weighted(3 make up 80% of your grade) and structured of them is totally unfair, and makes attending class pretty much pointless. All of the questions are A-E multiple choice almost every one can be narrowed down to two choices, and I basically guessed between the two for each one. I was one of the few students that actually came to class and contributed to the lecture but that didn't help my grade obviously. If I could go back in time I wouldn't have ever gone to class and allocated my time more effectively to reading the book during class time. If you're like me and you expect the professor to teach you the concepts during the lectures and not try to trick you on exams, then I wouldn't recommend taking BMGT350 with Dr. Lefkoff. Prof. Lefkoff is a really great lecturer as she makes what is very boring material interesting. Be prepared to see her get super excited about the subject and start running and screaming all over the room. Be prepared to hear stories from her college days and working for a oil refinery as a young adult. Be prepared to hear stories about her personal life that makes you shake your head. Overall, course is not difficult, you just have to read textbook and pay attention to every detail as it will pop up in the exams. Lowest exam score was a 84 and highest was a 88 but she offers no curve, so I got a B+ after the project and written case. Had I kept up the readings and note taking pulling off an A would not be that difficult. Going to class is not necessary, but I did show up for most of her lectures because I enjoyed her. Overall, I would recommend her, but my classmates complained that the exam questions were tricky. I didn't really find that to be the case when I knew what the question was talking about.

Very bubbly and exciting lady, which is great for a 9:30AM lecture. Lefkoff really does love marketing and loves teaching it. Definitely try taking it with her. As for the course, well, it's pretty difficult. The exams ask very specific questions that she doesn't cover in lecture. The case studies are also graded pretty harshly. One classmate told me that they basically grade them like this: perfect 100%, good 85%, poor 75%, so on and so forth. No in-betweens. You'll have to do a lot of reading and a lot of studying for the exams. The group project is pretty easy, a 20 minute presentation on how a company could improve its marketing strategies.

She is a crazy lady, but lecture is very entertaining because of it. She runs around the room talking to the class and trying to get everyone excited. Lecture is very enjoyable for her class, I enjoyed it and I reccomend going. As for her tests I found them to be incredibly challenging and are worth a huge chunk of your grade, I believe the breakdown is 26% 27% 27% for her 3 exams. No final which is nice, just a class project. I thought the exams were VERY challenging, she uses a great deal of stuff from lectures mixed in with vocabulary. I got the hang of it by the last exam, but I escaped with a 80% by the hair of my chin. So in summary, she is a fun lecturer, but there is probably someone a little easier.

Boyd is awesome. His lectures are really entertaining and actually enjoyable. The downside is that his tests do have a lot of random questions out of nowhere, but the curves are huge to make up for it. I got As on the first two tests. You just need to carefully read the book and review lecture notes, and use your best guessing skills on all the random questions. You need to go to his lectures, but that's not an issue because they are interesting. Whats also great about his class is that he has no annoying papers or group projects. I definitely recommend him.

This professor was a great marketing teacher. She laid out the whole semester and how the course would be broken up and then she followed that schedule. She taught a lot of great topics for all business majors and her tests were all multiple choice. The final was called "exam 3" and was held right before thanksgiving. It was the same length as the other 2 tests and because of it there was no actual final during finals week. The tests were easy to study for, definitely get the online course mate because that's all you really need to study for the tests and using it should guarantee you an A overall in the class.

His lectures are really fun, but he's a terrible professor. He can't teach and loves to talk about himself throughout the class. His lectures don't tie into what's going to be on the test. His test are completely random. Half the material comes from the book and hte other half is complete BS that we have never covered in class. If you want to get an A in the course you really have to read the textbook well and beat the curve. His curves are ridicioulos. Even if you fail the exam you end up with a B-. Worst class ever because you legit have to put more effort into it to get an A than any other class.

Professor Boyd is a great lecturer. He's funny, will keep you engaged and you'll never be bored! However, when it comes to his exams he has like half of the materials out of nowhere. No matter how much you study the book, do the online quizzes, it'll never help you. If you end up with an A it's pure luck. My advise don't study too hard for this class. No matter how hard you study there is no guarantees for an A. However if your target is a B don't even bother to study since you'll never fail his class and get a B anyway-thanks to his gigantic curve.

Her lecture is kind of interesting because of her extensive body action and numerous of examples. BUT DO BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TAKING HER CLASS because her exams are fully based on EVERYTHING SHE SAID in class and extensive detail (not bold) in textbook, sometimes even include SMALLEST DETAIL in video you watched several chapters ago, her questions are some what tricky and very easy to mislead you. I completely hate her exams which was 93% of all grades.

As many of the other reviews said, she is a really nice woman and does her best to keep the class involved and would make a great kindergarten teacher. As far as 350, she was..eh. Her tests were pretty easy and straight out of the book, so definitely have to study that a lot. 5 case studies are graded tough, make sure you put effort into them. Group project was really easy, as there was no written deliverable.

The kind of teacher that a business school student usually thrives on. Uses the powerpoints from the book, 3 quizzes (1 dropped), case studies, 2 exams, a final, and a group project. No class participation or anything. I spent all semester not going to class because the powerpoints were online but it cost me on the final. A lot of her questions came from stuff she explained in class which made pulling an all-nighter going through slides and online material before the final not too effective. I would recommended going to class regularly and keeping an ear open as you are on your laptop on facebook or whatever, it'll be worth it on the exams. i was pissed at myself for getting a B in such a simple class.

Professor Boyd is an excellent lecturer. He is concise, interesting, and always has relevant real world examples. With that being said, I am still not sure where some of the exam questions came from. The exams have about 50% information from the book, 15% from lectures, and 35% from a random source nobody has discovered yet. They are curved steeply so this pretty much makes up for it. I kind of like this because you don't have to study much for the exams.

Professor Boyd is the best lecturer I have had so far in the business school. He knows how to captivate the attention of the class and makes his lectures interesting. As far as the tests, don't get too freaked out by all of these comments on here. Just study the chapters in the book! Lecture is just part of what he tests you on. Yes, his tests involve some application of the material, but it really prepares you for real world marketing situations. If you want to be a marketing major you should take 350 with Boyd! He also tests you at the end of the semester on "marketing jargon." So you basically have a vocabulary test circa 9th grade in a college level class. However, reviewing words like "surmise" and "obviate" isn't all too bad in the realm of preparing us for mature business conversation. Overall, I highly recommend Professor Boyd for BMGT 350. He really knows his stuff and keeps class interesting. I'm pretty sure attendance is taken throughout all sections of this class, so why not have a professor who's interesting? Also, everyone is basically guaranteed a B. I got an A on my first test and a B on my second, so only time will tell how I do after the vocab test and final. Regardless, I'm going to get at least a B.

Professor Lefkoff is amazing. She is always upbeat and tries really hard to engage her students. She is a fair grader, especially on the group project. Her exams are multiple choice and are straight from the text and lecture. Very easy if you study. The second exam and the final are a little bit tougher than the first exam so make sure you actually read the material. If you show up to class, read the material and do well on the group project then you will get an A.

Prof. Whitney is awesome. She goes over exactly what she wants us to know, and tests us on that only. She is more than willing to accept arguments for grading discrepencies, and is an overall fair person. This class did not require much effort at all, if anything it was mostly memorization. Plus, I actually learned some things from this class. Wait until Prof Whitney is teaching 350 to take it; it's worth it.

I really liked her style of teaching. I felt that she made an effort to teach the subject in a more practical, rather than a theoretical fashion. Albeit she didn't give us a review sheet and such for the exam, she did tell us specifically that her exams were based on the MCQs on the textbook's website. True to her word, 60% of the questions came from the text's website. She has a knack for the subject, and especially if marketing is not your major, you should really take it with her because she makes an effort to teach it in an interesting manner.

He's no doubt a great lecturer. Only con is that his exams are unfair, which makes this class not worth putting an effort in. One reviewer said that to do well on the exams, you must guess how Boyd would analyze a situation. I agree completely. This is how I did on the exams: Exam 1 - studied somewhat, ended up getting a high B Exam 2 - studied a lot, did worse than the first exam with a B- Exam 3 - decided to test this guy's test. didn't study at all. I legitimately knew answers to 5 questions out of 50 on the exam. I guessed the other 45. I got a B on this exam. Conclusion: Whether you study or not, you'll probably end up with a B in this class, so my recommendation is don't study. In fact, save your money and don't buy the book because you'll get a B whether you read it or not.

This professor is one of the worst i've encountered in my whole life. She is completely sarcastic and a careless human being. When i took this class she seemed like an ok professor but as the semester progressed she became careless and very rude. She gave no reviews for the exams and was not polite when it came to asking questions in class. The only thing she does is talk about her sons. If you can avoid taking her, do it!!

Extremely amiable guy. Very funny and really keeps your attention. Lectures are fun and interesting, though can sometimes seem irrelevant. When looking at ourumd.com before taking the class, i said that i would be one of the 17% or whatever to get an A. I was wrong. Though, i'm not sure of my final grade yet, i'm assuming its going to be in the B+ range. Getting an A is attributed to one thing only - luck. Honestly I put in at least twenty some hours before each test studying and it yielded no results. For the people who did really well, honestly it is luck. not to put any of them down. So if you're one of those people who is good at guessing on tests and prepares a lot, you might pull it off. By the third test, the best way to study for me was reading each chapter (not outlining), then reading the summaries in the back, then taking the online quiz for the chapter, and then going over the lecture notes from that date pertaining to the chapter. I don't know if the third test was easier or what, but i felt a whole lot more confident from that method of preparing.

As a TA she is very helpful. She makes every effort to make sure her students excel above those of the other TAs. She spells out exactly what she expects from every student, including the topic of each paragraph of the paper - something people in other sections struggle with. I highly recommend her as a TA, but I've heard horror stories of her as a teacher.

Boyd is an extremely interesting lecturer, and is very lively for an early morning lecturer! His exams ARE from the lectures and book respectively, but if you miss lectures you can get an A just by reading the book. The book is also extremely helpful in that it has online practice quizzes. Seriously, the reason people are convinced it is impossible to get an A in this course is because they hear it so much and it gets into their heads! There is no reason a student cannot get an A in this course if they make an effort.

Most interesting lecturer I had this semester. However, this guy tests on NOTHING he lectures about. Some of the information on the tests is from the book but the vast majority isn't from the book. I don't know where the hell he comes up with his test questions, but they suck ass. Everyone fails the tests and he curves everyone up to a B. It's stupid. It seems like the guy likes to see us fail.

Getting an A seems unrealistic. He's a great lecturer, but the material on the exam is based on the book, not his lectures nor his power points. Pick Van Winter as yor TA, he's the best. Just read the book, or don't read, you'll probably get a B no matter how hard you study. 3 exams, all multiple choice, 1 paper, 1 true-false reading quiz, discussion attendance, and experiment participation. Overall not pleased because studying hard isn't rewarded; i got a B in his class. I found out later that i was 0.4% away from an A. Sad.

This is the most frustrating course I have taken so far at the business school. His lectures are really interesting and make marketing seemed fun and then he hits you with the first exam. It had nothing to do with the interesting things in lecture; instead, it was mostly from the book and partially from who knows where. They are multiple choice and most questions are "application" questions, which basically mean how good are you at guessing how Professor Boyd would analyze a situation. The terms are annoying because there are a ton of them and a lot have very similar meanings. The second and third exam aren't much better, they did seem to incorporate more from the lecture but that doesn't help because after the first one you're not expecting lecture material to be on it. The true/false quiz on the reading assignments is tough too because some of the questions were very specific and hard to remember after reading like 10 articles. Hard to figure out what your grades are because everyone does so bad that it all depends on the curve.

Boyd gives awesome lectures; one of my favorite classes ever to go to. His lectures are short and sweet, he always ties in the most random examples either from his own life or things like movies and tv shows. He keeps the class interesting and entertaining. However, the only downside is that the exams are really hard. he lectures about basic concepts from the book, but the exam are all application questions. and there's always random questions that have nothing to do with anything we learned. Thankfully there is a huge curve.

He is a really good professor and his lectures are really interesting. However, as mentioned by many others, his exams are very difficult unless you are good at memorizing 100s of useless terms. Grading for the marketing paper was ridiculous since he didn't provide us with any specific guidelines. I would suggest taking this during winter or summer, or at a community college if the credit transfers.

Get Bonavia as your TA! She's fantastic. Really helpful, too. On Boyd - He's a great professor. Lecture is really interesting, and he never keeps us longer than an hour. Exams are tough but not impossible if you study hard - both lecture and textbook, I'd recommend. Go to class! He doesn't post his slides online, and the information that he goes over during lecture WILL be found on the test. Theres a paper in the class - but nothing aggregious, just 5 pages and your TA will go through it with you step by step. You DO have to attend discussion, but its fairly painless (assuming you don't get an early one). Readings for the class are interesting, and required for a reading quiz at the end of the semester. Good class, really!!

Mr. Boyd is a really nice and funny guy. His lectures were always interesting and enjoyable to go to, but some of his examples didn't really help us understand anything. However, his tests were mainly straight from the book (his lectures basically reinforce what the book say). For the quiz on the readings at the end, listen to what your TAs say about past years because he reuses the same questions. I ended up getting an A in the class. I read the each of the chapters 2-3 times before each test and did well. An A on the tests was about 82%.

I took this course in Fall of 2006: Strengths Dr. Boyd is a very funny guy and wants his students to do well. Made lectures enjoyable and easy to go to even at 9:30AM. Knows marketing well. Definitely recommend going to lectures as it reinforces what you are going to read and he provides good examples and it makes reading the textbook easier. But do read the textbook too as the tests are more heavily based on the book. But you're doing yourself no good by skipping lectures. Also I've heard that he eliminated the group paper and made the project and made it an individual project which is definitely better as you never know who you'll get put with in a large class. Drawbacks His tests are very challenging. He curves on a floating curve. You really have to read the book well and think about the material. It's hard to get an A though easy to get a B. I squeaked by with an A-. The first exam is the easiest and if you manage to get an A on it, it definitely increases your chances of getting an A in the class. About 80% get B's and 18% A's. My TA was not very good as she couldn't get people to participate and didn't really seem in control.
